Yes that is a good progression, but he is still averaging 5.3 per 9 on the season.. He has to get that down. He won't be able to rely solely on fastball in bigs. He's been getting better with control on off speed pitches and has dialed it back to 95 on fastball for control.

He had 6 walks in 20 IP for the month of July. To go along with 18 Hits and 30 K.

There really is no reason to move him up this year to a bad team.

Rick Hahn has a history of doing August waiver deals. I'm thinking this team isn't done yet.

They've done a good job of trading international pool money for middle tier prospects. They seem to be stacking themselves up with lefty pitching prospects in the minors for depth. The Cubs did this during their rebuilding phase.

Honestly, the last thing Rick Hahn did that was not a good move was trade Fernando Tatis Jr. to get James Shields. Everything since has been golden.

For this club, that is the line of demarcation. Everything they have done since speaks to Rick Hahn > Kenny Williams in terms of who is running this team and calling the shots. They've drafted better, and Jerry probably finally listened to Hahn and realized that they were one of the worst "win now" teams in the history of sports. There was one year they were as bad as the Cubs and the Cubs were tanking. The Sox were not.

The direction they're going guarantees them nothing, but they're stocking themselves with youth on the farm and cutting payroll every chance they get. That's a wonderful combination. Really fun team to follow right now. Them and the Braves. I have my doubts about the Padres, but they have quite a farm system too.

Rick Hahn has made a lot of waiver deals in August. I don't think they're done.

That is an interesting tidbit for Moncada.. I think he will be fine, it will come.

Madrigal promoted to Winston Salem, still has not struckout. Alec Hansen sent down to Single High A from Birmingham from WS. Steele Walker promoted to Kanapolis from Rookie Ball.

Reading around a little bit, it would appear that Cease is showing any scout that looks at him that he can be an MLB starter. There was a lot of talk he was destined for the bullpen. Same thing could be said of Kopech.

Both of these guys look like they'll be in the White Sox rotation.

Yep, great to see. Rumors from Levine are that Eloy will be up in the next week. Kopech has to break camp with MLB club you would think. Cease, start in AAA and prob be a mid/late season call up. Hope Dunnings arm heals nicely as well. Hansen needs to get his head right too.

Laz Rivera, one of my favorite prospects besides Basabe.

I don't understand why they'd start his service clock. Why call him up to a bad team? Plus you're trying to tank. You won't catch KC or Baltimore, but you can hold off SD and draft third. That's a pretty smart play.

They should still be trying to move guys on waivers this month if at all possible.

Avilan
Cedeno
Shields
Santiago
Davidson

are the guys i would have on August Waiver Trade. Palka is playing more at DH now than Davidson.

you don't think a playoff contender would love having palka's left handed power off the bench during the run? I'd hang him out there, too.

he absolutely murdered that homer yesterday.

I think everyones available.. I am thinking that Sox like Palka better right now than Davidson.. Both have a lot of team control left. Davidson 2022, Palka 2023. And you are right that was an absolute bomb.

First 4 game win streak all season. Sad, but good to let the kids feel what winning is like. Also, first road series sweep since 2016.

He’s up next year 100%. Robert hopefully staying healthy and can get up
To AA by end of year too. Two ideal top of lineup guys 1-2. Would be nice to have them build some chemistry soon on the basepaths

Going into last night:

Covey first time through lineup: .207/.296/.333
Covey second time through lineup: .321/.395/.468

They still employ a pitching coach, right?

I have some concerns with Kopech, Cease, etc. coming up.

Why does this guy keep lasting through managers? You'd think you'd hire a manager and let him bring in his own pitching coach. Is this another "Jerry Reinsdorf is blindly loyal to him" type of situation?

I'm honestly not familiar with the arrangement, but Cooper was with Guillen when they won it and has lasted until now. Two managers later. What is the deal?

Gio had a terrible 2nd inning yesterday, but besides the monster inning he pitched alright. 7ks.. Hopefully this was a learning experience for him as he has pitched much better and limited his walks.

Moncada, 163ks. Leads majors is on pace to set single season record for Strikeouts. He's gotta start making contact.. He sees the ball well.. I wonder what he exactly is struggling to see out there.

Kris Bryant struck out 199 times his first year. 600+ PA. Moncada is 23 years old. Things are bad in this moment, but there is no reason to think hope is lost.

Giolito seems to get more slack than Carson Fulmer from Sox fans and pundits. Fulmer was drafted by the team and was a polarizing pick at that, so perhaps that's why he's treated differently. I think Giolito has the higher ceiling regardless, and I think most others do too, so maybe that's why he's given more of a "pass."

Up until recently, there were many barking for him to be demoted or moved to the pen. It's because Giolito had a great spring and has shown signs of life recently.

Fulmer has had more time on the mound with the big league squad, and it's been mostly bad.

On the flip side, there's also a ton of people freaking out about Moncada. I don't share in their panic. He's almost certainly not going to be Kris Bryant, but he's going to get it figured out. It's not a matter of if, but when.

Ya his defense is outstanding. Really hoping his bat can come together over the next month build some momentum into Spring.

Like Rogue said, Kopech is dealing.

Anyone else think that maybe some of the young starters problems could be linked to not having a veteran catcher behind the plate, a la, Wellington? He should be back next week i believe. I know the catcher isn't throwing the ball, but still a good catcher can help mentor a young arm, and that is why he ws brought here.

I think it might be a combination of things. A catcher helps, for sure, but I really wonder about what Don Cooper is putting into the ears of these guys.

He's been the pitching coach since 2002? That's a lot of sway for a guy to have over an organization. He's endured over the course of several managers and at least two general mangers, right?

A fresh face and new voice might be what they need when all these guys come through. Cooper seems to me like a guy you'd want handling a veteran staff.

I agree with that and Coop handling a veteran staff. I kind of thought that is why the Sox brought on Dave Duncan to help at the lower levels. They probably need another guy as well since there are so many arms in the organization now.
