$1 Million flyer isn't a bad deal. I'm just not convinced he's the LH power hitter we need. Hope I'm wrong.

I don't think I remember him playing baseball since the Twins were semi-good. Who does he play for?

He's a free agent. Was with the Rock's last year. They didn't pick up his option.

Their farm team is that bad/far away? It's June 9th and dude is still playing in the beer leagues. Sign Adam Dunn again...at least he'll hit the moon every now and then.

Actually...

He had two good years in Colorado until an elbow injury hurt him last year (which he had surgery on and is ready to go now) Baseball-Ref.com says he led the NL in batting in '14 @ .319. He was batting .310 last year when he got hurt.

I did not know that.

Ok, thank you...when push comes to shove I guess. Didn't notice any power numbers listed in Colorado of all places.

I'm not sure why it matters anymore though. Would rather bring up a prospect (if there are any) to get the experience. JM at best seems like a year to year to bridge some kind of gap...

Had the 3rd highest slugging percentage of his career. Hopefully he's better.

They don't have any young power that's ready. The DH spot should have been Schwarber but Rodon looked like a longterm lefty lock. That'll be on my tombstone... unless Schwarber's knee isn't ever 100% in which case he'll be with the Sox, Tribe or Tigers before long.

Morneau can go suck shit through ten bricks. He is hands down one of my most hated baseball players ever.

For the record, I hate the Twinkies more than anybody. Sorta like how people hated KC last year only mine goes back 25 years with the Twinks.

I used to feel how you feel only towards Albert Belle. I got over it by the All Star game. By the end of year two, he started to really grow on me. Hard to hold a grudge against someone who goes 200H, 50-2B, 50HR, 150RBI.

Then POOF.... He Gone.

Really? 25 years. Kirby is that old..damn. I just hope the Sox get them in the next series.

My level of hatred for the Twinks is far stronger than that for the Tigers, Royals, and Indians. There was nothing more maddening than watching Minny rack up dozens of bloops and flairs in the old Feces Dome. I'm still convinced they had a hitting coach in the late 90's-early 00's who strictly taught opposite field soft fly balls barely over the infield's head, and they weren't allowed to use them until the game was tight after the 6th inning.

Kirby's much older than that. He broke in when I was still in high school. And no one hated Kirby. Kirby's one of Chicago's all time best exports. Now that Hunter character that came later??? If it wasn't for his son... there'd be a contract out.

By the end of the 80's / early 90's and then in the mid '00's they kept the Sox out of the playoffs 6 times I'm guessing.

Kirby was unhateable. The guys on those teams who were the puds were: Kent Hrbek, Danny Gladden, and Jack Morris. Hated those guys. Still don't know how Ron Gant didn't punch Hrbek in the face after he pulled his leg off the bag for an out during the World Series.

I really don't have any problem with the Shields or the Morneau deals. They gave up next to nothing for Shields and Morneau is getting min. money.

I just don't think a certain player is going to help this squad. The leadership is awful and unable to will this team out of a major funk. With even mediocre managerial skills, this kind of slump would have ended way earlier.

I just don't see this team playing up to their potential as long as Ventura remains the manager.

That's definitely it. These band-aid over bullet hole acquisitions are an exercise in futility, and reek of "Well, we are doing our job." Right now I'd attribute the woes: 75% management, 25% roster. The players deserve some blame, that's a fact, but agree the boys in charge are flicking boogers instead of doing their job.

I know Kirby is much older...but it seems like it has been that long since the Twins were any good...being factitious (spell check, thanks). Kirby was awesome...flat out.

What did they give up? I know a lot of contenders are interested in your third baseman.

Reliever Erik Johnson and Fernando Tatis, a minor league short stop. Johnson had his moments, but hasn't been good at all this season whether in relief or in the rotation.

Not sure what sucks more.. this thread or the white soxs. Go Cubs!!!

Not sure what sucks more...seeing this the first time, or you using it again. Good stuff man.

Now back on subject...Sales would look good in a Red Sox uni. Not sure if we have for Frazier.

What does the dumpster fire look like? Not talking about Ventura.

(Duplicate post. Needs to be in both threads)

Just went to top want of this cycle for his keen sense of fashion alone.

Probably a Jordan jersey BUT if it says Jenks on the back, he's moving into the Shark zone of all time favorites!

I'd say blow this team up and start over, but lord knows Jerry and co. would find a way to screw it up all over again. I may love my Sox, but I hate the jackasses in charge of them. I have zero faith in them to rebuild this team from the ground up.

I'm thoroughly convinced that the bullpen did everything in their power to keep Shields from getting the W. That 9th inning was beyond cringe-worthy. You have to TRY to make the Twins offense look good.

Just the second series loss in a row to a bad team. Business as usual. This team is rotting under Ventura.

Ventura coming back. Looks like its time to become a baseball widow for this fan.
