As much as Jaden Greathouse's performance is getting galzed he proved again that he doesn't attack the ball whatsoever.
There’s no way he was catching the game winner b/c it was not catchable. That’s why it’s difficult to get emotional about the no PI call b/c CJ didn’t make the play. I’m confident no player prepares or wants to win more than CJ. But he clearly presses in big games. I think that’s why we saw all the errant passes beginning w/ the wide open TD overthrow to Faison on opening drive. A lot of the sideline throws were nowhere near being catchable &/or in bounds.

You know, I was ready to accept the final play but after giving it some more thought, what’s stopping them from scheduling a final play from the 8 yard line for Wednesday evening?

BYU leads country in pressure rate allowed

Just so it's clear, as I had to double take it since it's a weird graph where the percentage shrinks as it goes right and up.

Right, and upper right is still really good.

So take Miami, not only do they not give up too much pressure (not as good as BYU or ND), but they really do a good job of eliminating you getting to the qb quickly. I take that as scheme and they play very assignment correct, not many missed assignments letting free rushers in. Where as ND doesn't give up much pressure, better than Miami, but when they do, a lot of times it's very quick pressure. The eye test confirms that as we see blown assignments. A few by Absher and Knapp Saturday night especially in final 2 minutes. Seems like that's this team as a whole, when the team knows what they're doing and doesn't blow assignments, they are really really good, but we still miss assignments far too frequently. More so on D lately, but Knapp on offense has struggled last 2 games.

Just a side note; all of our potential first round draft choices tanked and lost at least one round in their projected draft positions. Carr should be back. Why do we think Faison and Greathouse are gone? I could see Greathouse entering the portal but not getting drafted.

haven’t watch yet:

Woof Adon. I think he's definitely hurt since he came out against UNC. If he plays down hill like he normally does or brewu doesn't hesitate on the 2nd and 10 from the Brooks video, maybe ND dictates things more, but holy hell did Bear ball out. Totally out coached and out executed.

I think Faison is most likely a 4th rounder right now. I just don't see enough to put him in the 2nd round yet.

Im doing one better. Im currently preparing a sternly written email with the HOA that we do not like the placement of his trash bins and that they need to be moved.

If he lives where I’ve been told, there’s a HOA for a neighborhood of 5ish houses?

I think because everyone assumed Carr is gone, and they aren't improving their stock by playing a 5th year.

They may be hurting themselves playing every snap and having a lot of good plays but also a lot of bad/tired routes on film.

I definitely think Carr should return another year, but who knows where his head will be at after the season. I thought preseason no shot he's returning. If he returns, that opens the door for a bunch of other players that could want to return. I doubt Faison or greathouse want to return with a new QB.

Not all were open, but let's say they were. Why keep calling the same play when the QB is struggling to make the connection?
This 100%. Maybe they were open, maybe not. That’s actually immaterial to the discussion about Denbrock. In fact, it reinforces my belief he has zero feel for the game. Does Carr need to execute? Absolutely, but if he is not and it’s the middle of a prime time top 10 road game, it’s the job of the coach with 40 years of experience to adjust the playcalling to find what is working. Carr should make passes but when he’s not and Denbrock keeps forcing him to throw them then that is a coach issue. Players will always only get away with what coaches allow. The buck stops with Denbrock and ultimately Freeman.

I think after this weeks games here are a few things I want to see happen.
Offense
1. Find an option at WR whose going to cause nightmares for other teams to defend. Clapper for BYU was a nobody last year and we couldn't contain him. I don't think anyone on our roster has the wiggle or moves that Frazier or Burress posses and there's zero reason why neither can't get involved in the offense.
2. Find a guy on the roster whose going to go up and get a 50/50 ball. (AKA: Devin Fitzgerald or Bettis Jr.) None of the starters on the roster besides Gilbert at times have shown this.
3. Get Premer more involved and playing a lot against Navy. We need a TE whose capable of being a threat out there catching passes, not someone whose a decoy and in there to block.
4. Get Williams more involved in the passing game, I don't really want to see him playing RB anymore. Only two guys getting carries at RB should be Walton and James. It should be 60/40 split with reps.

Defense
1. Stop having the DB's sit in a zone 8 yards off the line of scrimmage and start playing man more.
2. Start getting pressure with different blitz packages, don't fucking wait till the second half. Do it the first drive of the game and get in the QB's head.
3. If Shuler is having issues or hurt, start Joey O or Ethan Long both are more than capable.

The staff:
Get your heads out of your ass and start playing and trusting the younger guys you recruited on this current roster. Because if you continue to not play guys don't be surprised when a majority of them bounce after this season.

It is a head coaching issue. He needs to overrule his assistants in situations like this.

Oh I agree completely. I don't understand how he doesn't question the RB usage or the lack of WR rotation. It worries me and makes me wonder if Freeman freezes in some of these big games.

Yeah, they were, so let's say they were.

Because it's what they practiced and installed all week maybe? They also give CJ in incredible amount of agency to change and or call plays at the line because he's supposed to be a Heisman front runner and NFL first round draft pick.

After losing, I think it would have been best to have a game this week and a bye next week.
Exactly. Especially because when you play a service academy, the following performance is typically a dip for most programs. So bye after a tough loss, Navy, Miami. Not ideal.

Then again, expectations being what they are, you just have to deal and move on with it.

This is kind of where I'm at. I'd need to watch a lot of film and know a lot more about what was actually called vs what was checked into to have a meaningful opinion on Denbrock's performance. But I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that (a) this offense has been putting up tons of points with him (yes, frequently against inferior competition, but I've been a fan long enough to remember when we weren't doing that) and (b) this offense had plenty of opportunities to put up more points last night.
Walton getting five carries is an indictment on Denbrock.

There isn't a tight end from Irv Smith to Michael Mayer that would have been able to catch some of the throws CJ was putting out there Saturday night. He still only has 18 starts under his belt as a college QB. His performances against the better teams are what they are, so this isn't a one off.

Denbrock needs to be better. So does Carr.

Yeah I mean you can't tell me O'Brien is gonna be worse than Shuler. I'd rather have Joey's length out there. BYU LB's tipped who knows how many balls. If Tae comes back, Give me Mckinney, Moore, Tae at Nickle, Joey, and Talich. Or let Talich play some LB if he can cover better than our current LB's
You'll forget about O'Brien when he's a junior because there will be some freshman they recruited you'll want to see playing instead.

There are some one trick ponies on this board, but you're in the running for the Triple Crown, my friend.

I haven't read any of this thread because I know its full of bs :ROFLMAO:

BUT (and I'm sure someone has already said this), I feel like that altitude played a huge role in Carr missing multiple throws. He usually doesn't air mail that many throws downfield.

BYU had a great gameplan that they saw in how UNC attacked on offense, and they pulled the Boise State (in the heyday) plays of trickery. This was their super bowl, and they showed up.

I'm only pissed at the fumble in the first half that was caused by a BYU player, and the missed PI and second on the clock at the end. The refs don't F that up and we're having different discussions.

Denbrock is vanilla though, and Ash wasn't ready for the big moment.

My two cents.
