Kelly KNOWS offense, so he is naturally more critical of that. If you are really strong in Math, you push your kids harder in that subject, because you know it better. I distinctly heard Kelly say, "We have to coach these kids better.", in his post game presser. He's not shielding the coaches and throwing the kids under the bus.........

I would say all of them...... once they watch the tape.... who wouldn't try and run the hurry-up against that defense?

Diz

Picturing MSU running their exact same offense, but just doing so in a very sped-up, no huddle fashion gave me the giggles.

BK's teams have always fought hard. I'm not worried about BK losing this team after one game. One loss, the season isn't over and you're still in the hunt. They will respond fine. Nevada will have better odds at the craps table then they will have on the scoreboard.

Home of Manny Randazzo's King cake!

Best in the world!

They brought me 5 of them when LSU and ND came here to Nashville for the bowl game couple of years ago..... I gave them out to friends and kept one..... should have given out one and kept the other 4.

They are the best. I'm in Houston but go to Nawlins about 3 times a year. Always bring back a truckload of them. LOL.

Good stuff!

Venebles is prob the best DC in college ball. But he's not moving.

John Chavis is prob 2nd. If Sumlin got dumped, he could be a good target.

Grantham isn't happening.

Pelini would be a fantastic hire if they can keep him muzzled.

BVG must go at the end of the season. Earlier if we can't get it under control.

BVG came from the pros, and with that came the lack of tackling fundamentals. I actually think it wouldn't be half bad if the defense wrapped up. ( after watching Monday's game) I think it was 24 or 25 missed tackles for ND defense. I don't mind that blitz heavy defense but you have to mitigate huge gains by solid tackling, and playing at a high tempo. I don't think ND has the depth to play at that high intense tempo. Just an opinion from a fan. First time poster, been following off and on for afew years now. Glad to have finally signed up.

The same thing happened with the offense under Weis. The fundamentals got worse every year.

I'll just wait for the Huskies to can Diaco, and give BVG type money to draw Diaco back.
Too wishful of thinking?

And i know i've read the beginning of this thread, bunch of Diaco Downers.

I cringed every time a Bama defender hit someone from SC. The hits were violent and vicious. I can't recall seeing someone from ND laying the wood like that in years.

As a player Kelly played linebacker and began his coaching career on the defensive side of the ball. He was the DC at Grand Valley prior to becoming HC. He has been a HC for a loooong time. He knows defense too. There is no way when he gets out from in front of the microphone he is OK with what is going on right now. He also cant publicly undermine his DC and expect his players to respect and fight for Bvg which is what he needs them to do regardless of whether the scheme and coaching are adequate or not.

I'm saying, as the architect of the offense that ND runs, Kelly has absolute knowledge of what should and shouldn't happen during any given offensive play. So when he is critical of Kizer, while appearing to go kind of easy on VanGorder, part of it is probably because he understands every single nuance of what every player is supposed to be doing on every offensive play. I doubt he has that same depth of knowledge on the defensive side of the ball.

Yet he has let this go on for 3 years. Some of the worst defense in the history of ND. So, I really thing like I said before, bk and his ego won't allow admitting a mistake on the hire. He may have done it earlier in his nd career, now the ego and stubbornness won't allow it. The last three games are historically horrific, but so many have been. Nothing will happen we will have to accept that. But, fans have to hold him accountable. Not go crazy and think they should be perfect or the best. But, historically horrific isn't acceptable. And saying relax, tap the breaks is offending. Especially when this has been going on and not getting better. Not better at all just look at the last three games it has gotten progressively worse to horrific.

I think this is probably true...I mean Kelly wasn't handin' out atta boys and votes of confidence on the sideline Sunday night...saw him get in BVG's (aka VanDeeter's) ass at least once.

Question is why did it take them sooooo long to switch to the four man front? The next question is why the hell did they switch back to a 3 man front at the end ?

24 missed tackles against Texas...this falls on the players

How many times did their RB's get hit in the backfield and they still gained positive yardage. That was the most frustrating thing to me Sunday night. Wrap 'em boys!

It is surprising to me (and out of character) that ND spent so much of the night on their heels in a nickel package. The outcome wasn't good but, hey, they are trying some different things from the last two years.

we would hit but not wrap up...it reminded me of the bama game...one guy would hit and try wrapping up and a bunch of guys would slowly trot towards the play but not be ready to assist and then they are out of position for big gashes...they wanted it more and imposed their will...that's what stings
