It's a 750 iii. I tried to look up as much as I could on it when I got it. However, didn't find a ton of information on that specific model.

That sounds like the one my mom and dad had in the late 70s. If it's the same, that's vintage and cool AF. Those were beasts.

Thanks, reps. I'll check this out.

Thanks! I haven't bought from that site I recommended in a while, but I've been happy with them.

If you want an Australian site let me know (I am into some Aussie bands).

Nice to see vinyl is coming back, I miss CD's (especially the CD's with bonus songs and CD singles with b-sides).

Record store day this year was the same as the Blue & Gold game, but that was pushed out to June.

Accutrac 4000. Bought in 74 and still have it.

I have 5 Beatles albums hot off the press, literally. My dad worked in the record factory at RCA and brought them home right after they got pressed.

Nice! I have silverchair's 'Diorama' on vinyl, I think there were only 400 originally pressed.

Fancy! All the track buttons still work?

Wait people buy new vinyls?

I have a substantial collection of (used) vinyls. It's probably my favorite hobby. A vinyl store that doubles as a craft beer bar opened up near me recently which has been awesome. Go there once a month or so and have a couple beers and buy a couple vinyls.

Best record player under $200? Any ideas?

I got lucky finding a used $350 TT for $220. No scratches any anything on it so not sure it was ever even used. Bought it straight from the manufacturer on Amazon.

I’d suggest doing the same. Finding one around the $220 mark, brand new, and seeing if you can get it used through Amazon.

Before I got my hand me down, I was doing a lot of reading up and a lot of places recommend Audio Technical at that price point. I don't have one, but that always seemed to be on the lists I saw.

When I was a kid, I got a “Baseball Card Kit” from Sears catalog for Christmas. It was the early 80s so it wasn’t that exciting of a kit but kids didn’t have many resources back then.

It included a binder w/ some plastic sheets. A variety of Topps cards from the late 70s (just commons...no stars), some odd ball cards and a 45 record on the First 100 Years of Baseball.

I listened to that 45 for hours. It had recordings from the 30s including Babe Ruth’s & Lou Gehrig’s farewell speech. Then it had a Jackie Robinson interview and tons of play-by-play legends like Vin Scully, Mel Allen & Curt Gowdy.

Listening to it on vinyl made it that much more retro and realistic...like listening to it in real time on the radio back in the day. I hope I still have that 45...I’d love revisit it.

I'm quite happy with my Audio-Technica AT-LP60. Got it for like $50 on a National Record Store Day sale, I think.

Needles and speakers are probably far more important to good sound. And my shit sounds great honestly. My whole rig was probably $200 dollars. Got the speakers and system from a local collector who was getting rid of some of his collection. (So I'd advise checking out Craigslist, where I found him.)

EDIT: They also have a newer version of my record player. Check this out. Looks slick.

From what I remember, the turntable itself is much less important in terms of sound quality as opposed to the stylus/cartridge.

Yep, the stylus is the key. The other thing to consider is direct drive or belt driven. Most will say direct drive offers the best sound as there is no slippage of the belt, but TBH, I don't think anyone can really tell the difference unless the belt driven unit was being played constantly over the course of a long time.

Bang & Olufsen, premo!

Yup. That was an early to mid 80s product IIRC. One of my HS GF's parents had one I think, or something very similar. I remembered the funky look, and was my first time seeing anything B&O. You have to like that look though. There are a lot of retro clean wood turntables I'd rather have these days to be honest.

I remember having a Fisher rack system with 4 of those big 3ft speakers during those years. My mom was super happy when I took it to college...

What do want. New, retro/vintage, good deal, enjoy the hunt?

Personally I like vintage, and there are some very cool vintage options on Craigslist and Ebay. If you like new, just go with a cheaper Fluance or Denon model, or Audio Technica (AT).

If you wanted to spend on vintage,,,, here's a cool one.

Just looking for something for the wife to play her moms old vinyl on. She just gave her over 5000 records from the 60's-80's. They used to own a record store in Niles, MI back in the day. I know nothing about record players so I thought i'd ask. We have plenty of good speakers.

I'm just going to say that everyone that probably reads this thread is extremely jealous right now. That is awesome and it's probably going to be pretty amazing to go through.

I'd search Craigslist and whatnot. However, with Covid 19 everywhere, you might feels after going for new.

If you've got new updated gear, just get a low end Fluance or Denon. Can't go wrong. I'd do the Flu

I'm very jealous of your wife.
