dskouche.....Thanks for that but I am not making myself look silly, and I am in the know....I didn't look at the ratings, I am talking about what I see, the Pac 10 is soft (with the exception of our opponent Saturday Stanford, SC, and Oregon) put the pac 10 up against the SEC and SEC wins more games, period....and in most years, (granted, not this one) the Big 12 would also beat them.

ONE MORE YEAR... Let's see what he can do with a full recruiting cycle, his first class wasn't really his class, let him finish this with his players

he has had 4 complete classes, he actually recruited 5 classes now, so we gotta stop using that argument.

i love charlie, i will miss the guy, but i think he is gone. what we do after they let him go is what scares me. if they don't have a better replacement, like a big name guy, then don't fire him please.

Cal and AZ are right there with those teams. id agree the SEC is tough as well.

i just want someone who is gonna win us a championship! i think charlie could do it if we had a defense that could half ass stop the run. CW is not the major problem. i understand he is the head coach but the blame shouldnt be placed only on his shoulders!

The Pac 10 is ussually the most under rated conference in all of college football. Unlike other conferences they regulary play tough out of conference and often have winning records in bowl games. People who say the Pac 10 is weak dont watch Pac 10 fottball.

ummm...it is the head coach's job to build such a defense and he has had five years to do so.

ummm Really? The last I checked they hire defensive coordinators to do this. Yes he is the head coach so that means he hired the people who was in charge of building the defense. As the head coach he should have done a better job at addressing the issues. The problem is they don't have an Offensive coordinator so he spent much more time with the offense than the defense.

Good point. Charlie Wies should have been gone 2 years ago. Between calender year November06 and November 07 they were 1-12, how does a team regress from playing a perfect game against Nevada, to becoming so inconsistent with the talent they have? This collapse is as bad as last years Basketball team, at least the Basketball team can blame a brutal schedule. Weis is more suited to be an NFL coach, which seems to be where he is headed back to. I wish him well on his future.

Not all of us.

If you feel that modern is post 1890, then sure. The job is not getting done.

Depends on what the job is. Based on the posts I've read on this board, Charlie's not responsible for the: poor defense, poor special teams, poor running attack, the dumb momentum-killing penalties, the fumbles, the missed assignments, poor technique exhibited by players, team coming out flat/inability to sustain 60 minutes of quality play, the quality of coaches on his staff, the number of losses...I'm sure I missed a few.

I watch a lot of college football, including pac 10 football, and I am just saying in my opinion the pac 10 is not as strong year in and year out as the SEC and Big 12.....Usually its SC and everyone else, you guys are right that the pac 10 is a lot deeper this year.

man just sitting back and reading this thread has got me laughing.

I think i am at peace now, no matter the decision i will support our coach in 2010, whomever it may be.

Im just wondering what all of the people who have charlie already fired are gonna do if he stays? lolz i think i might have to check the boards that day.

No offense man, but the next thing you'll want to do after you check the boards "after finding out that Charlie Weis has been retained" is surround yourself with family and friends because you'll haved progressed from mildly delusional to completely and utterly insane.

Ima Chuck fan like you. And I've also made peace with the fact he'll be gone but man Im gonna miss him and some of these assistants too. I think Charlie is pretty much the epitome of a man you'd want to send your kid to. Maybe my Niners could get him for the OC job, but thats whole another team n topic.

Charlie Weis should be retained because I love mediocrity and teams that play soft football. It's the best!

I also enjoy watching a promising recruit committ to ND and having their career be a waste. Hopefully after ND loses to a more physical Stanford team this weekend, Swarbrick can extend Weis' contract through 2025 so that we can enjoy his lame sense of humor throughout that many more press conferences.

God Bless.

coach weis 2010?

you just outlined perfectly why he is not head coaching material....lots of head coaches are more involved in one side of the ball. it doesnt absolve them of addressing other aspects of the team.

Coach Weis 2010 is suppose to be my political twist on things.

I completely understand that it's the HC job to make sure every aspect of their team is working but like I said before, that is why you hire coaches who have a bunch of experience and proven record. John Tenuta (spelling?) didn't forget how to put together defenses. I just don't think we have the right personnel or enough experience.

The offense hasn't been perfect by any means but it is the best part of our team. CW has been more involved in this side of the ball. Ask anyone why we lost games and most will say the defense. I put some blame on CW but it's a team effort so I think the blame should be spread around.

maybe if he does go back to the nfl he can take over the oc job for the browns and turn BQ into the next TB

If he's retained, I'll root for ND. But honestly, I'll be pretty certain that at this time next year we will be having the same discussion on the board. With certain people still wanting him gone, others waking to that fact, and some still saying it's not his fault and he needs more time because we don't want Dayne Crist transferring. This is deja vu.

bye Charlie. here's hoping we get a coach that drills fundamentals into the ND football program, sure tackling, heady play, minimal game changing penalties in key situations and a fire and attitude to succeed week in and week out. the experiment is over and this University deserves more and better.

I'm an ND fan first. I'm an alumn. I am part of the ND family, whether as fan or alumn. If Charlie is retained... I support OUR program. Did Bama fans jump ship when they went through a decade and a half of mediocrate. LSU went 45 years without a Nat. Champ and Michigan 49 years. OSU was an also ran in the Big 11 and went 38 years without a Nat. Champ - I saw no dwindling number of OSU buck-heads or Wal Mart Wolverines at the local mall. Texas suffered 35 years without and Florida may be the flavor of the last decade and a half. Where were they for the first 120 years of college football? Tennessee fans still found a use for their hunting colors even though their school went 31 years without a Nat. Champ and even though Will Ferrell hasn't had a hit movie since before his basketball movie flopped he still stands on the sideline after USC suffered 32 years without sniffing a Nat Champ or lost to us 11 years in a row. I support the Irish and always will.

Yeah, even if they get REAL stupid and hire Harbaugh.

My point is, we are ending the season and the squad still struggles with the same problems. The HC should realize that despite schemes, if something isn't working, stop trying to fit that square peg in the round hole and get it working. That D should spend whole practices on how to tackle. If the "great hire" is having problems, it is the HC's job to help sort it out.

This is exactly why I feel we should keep Charlie! The problems with this team are both a) obvious and b)very fixable with time. You can't teach a defense to tackle in a week. I don't care if you're Mike "God" Ditka himself (and why isn't his name on anybody's list?) its a job for the off-season. If we get rid of the fancy defensive schemes and spend the offseason working on fundamentals, those last minute losses could easily turn into 10 point wins. On the other hand, if we rip up the whole playbook, bring in somebody new who spends more time coaching his new system and learning who his players are, who knows where we'll be next year.

If CW could not fix the issues in his 5th year, why would the 6th be any different?
