I hate we're relitigating this less than two months before the season starts. Who cares?

The sooner this gets out of the sports news cycle, the better. Make the visit, say hello, leave, don't come back again.
It’s still less than two months till the season and recruiting is slow. He was the Notre Dame head coach for 12 years and gave his first interview(to my knowledge) with any media from the Notre Dame beat since he left. I could see a lot of people caring

I’m talking specifically about his framing of the situation. He went from “ND will never win a national championship, I took them as far as anyone ever possibly could.” To “I am an integral piece in ND would never be in a position to win another national championship but for me.”
Did he actually say the former? Even if he hinted that, a thousand other coaches said something along the same lines before NIL.

I don't know why I signed up for this daily clickbait. I don't even understand this hook.

Last year’s coaching carousel has shown us that head coaching spots can open and be filled within a short period. Brian Kelly is spending the offseason reforming his image and becoming the kind of free agent like Kyle Whittingham was for Michigan.

I find it fascinating that he still wants to work. He should have "been sipping mai tai's" years ago.

He doesnt need the money
Whatever school he goes to next cant reasonably expect to win a championship.
He isnt young.

This has Charlie Weis at Kansas written all over it. Sometimes you gotta know when to hang em up.

It really doesn't make any sense whatsoever. You had a good career, you got paaaaaaaaaaaiiiiidddddddd. Get that standing tee time at an elite country club and enjoy your spoils. Why in the world would he want to dip his toes back into this modern NIL college football world?

I feel like so much of it is just ego, and these guys don't realize that once you fail at a "Tier 1" school everyone looks at you different. They say "if he can't win at LSU, then..."

The lone exception has been USC-coaches-that-did-a-retread-under-Saban. Kiffin and Sark.

Kelly also has no play caller acumen, so where is he going to succeed and how is he going to succeed? If he was smart, he would 100% hang it up. Especially given his age.

It's not clear to me that he still does want to work. But in order to get paid out the rest of the LSU contract, he has a duty to make a reasonable effort at finding another head coaching job. That's all any of this could be. I guess we won't know for sure until 5 years from now.

Lol, did that guy really ask if an Arizona degree was perceived lower than ND?
I laughed, but I'll give them both credit -- he asked the question in a legit way and the co-host actually knew what he was talking about in the answer, which is more intelligent / informed than 99% of podcasts.

Agreed. I’m hard pressed to think of a more informed national writer than Andy Staples. Overall I agree with most of this podcast.
