Brian Kelly Revisited (RIP BOZO)

I've been a BK fan, but I tried to be non bias. This whole year I've been lost at his coaching strategy. At times it seems he is a first time head coach just trying to find his footing.

Lately it's like he is playing poker and going "full tilt" but losing every gamble.

With that being said, it's just hard for me to see him being fired. Right now I don't think a positive would come from it unless a big time coach would be a 100 percent get. But I don't see any for sure top candidates coming this year.

What you and the majority of the fans on this site don't understand is Notre Dame will never be what it was in the past and with the administration the way it is will never be as good as they were with Holtz in the late 80's and 90's. Notre Dame just is not the destination for coaches that we all think it should be.

I encourage you to look at the data I collected comparing the position rankings for recruits we offered scholarships to with those from OSU and Bama. I found that our position rankings were roughly equal to OSU and just slightly behind Bama. The "academic restrictions" argument is not very compelling given the evidence.

We have borderline top 5 talent if you go by recruiting rankings which would indicate that this narrative is BS. No one expects a Bama like dynasty but 9-11 wins every year is doable.

2014 composite ranking via 247: 11
2015 composite rankings via 247: 13
2016 composite rankings via 247: 15

Only year that was a top 5 class composite was 2013.

You are wrong that this team has consistent top 5 talent. Should they be better than 2-5, obviously. But they are not as talented as you think they are.

Just because they offer a recruit doesn't mean that recruit can get into the school. Once the staff gets full transcript and staff realizes they will not qualify then they do stop recruiting the player, but the recruiting sites still list he ND offer.

Some recruits even sign, but once the final senior year transcript is received some recruits don't qualify and have to leave. IE Niles Sykes and Tee Shepard.

I was just really annoyed how you were persistent that Kelly threw Mustipher under the bus and that Sam did nothing wrong last week and all the bad snaps were because of the weather.

Sam has not played well and people like you are making excuses on why he should play and that he has not been awful.

Sam played fine in every game before the monsoon. Guess I don't see why he deserved to be benched or whatever you seem to be inferring? He didn't play well today...that should be taken into account going forward.

He played poorly against Texas. I chalked that up to nervous from first start.

This season has just been so sad. This team has a lot of talent and we are 2-5 against 7 bad to average teams. I really like a lot of guys in this team Kizer, Zaire, Folston, ESB, CJ Sanders, Nyles Morgan, Rochell, Jarron Jones, Tillery, Nelson these are all players I have really enjoyed following and watch play. It is just a shame that all our talent was squandered against an awful schedule this year.

What's crazy is this team could be 7-0. Confidence is nice to have.....I think BVG poisoned this team with how awful of a defensive coach he was.

The team plays to not make mistakes and lose. Instead of playing to win......

If ifs and buts were fruits and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas. If I could be guaranteed that would happen next year, I'd retain Kelly. Can you guarantee it?

You missed the whole point of my post. This is a discussion thread. Trying to discuss things rather than hear for the millionth time "Kelly sucks". I didn't guarantee anything. I asked...IF we go11-1 and make the playoffs, which year do you consider the anomaly. Is the outlier the 2016 horrible year or the 2017 playoff year.

ND needs to be 12-0, period. ND is never going to be unbeaten again under Kelly. 2012 was the anomaly, as is this season. The average year is an 8-5 record, which is just abominable with the level of talent ND has.

While that record does suck, those 5 losses came in years they were either PAC -12 champs or made it to a BCS game.

If want to grade on a weighed scale, throw out his best and worst records. 2012 12-1 and 2016 maybe 4-8?. 2012 we had alot of lucky breaks. 2012 is turning out to be more of the anomly. This year iis bad but BK is a 8-5 coach tossing out those years. You still fire his ass. He will be fired whether after this year or before if this shit show continues. It sucks bc no one woukd have predicted it coming into a yeat that we had playoff hopes. Face the music man... Kelly shouldnt be here anymore. Time to face some hard truths. To me its not even hard. I was out after MSU

Yes, it literally is the biggest problem. We are in fucking Weis territory AGAIN after swearing it would never, ever happen under someone like "Savvy Jack"... with 1 or 2 years on his contract, we just go get someone better. The end. Having to eat up to $25mil handcuffs us severely.

Actually, you don't know what his buy-out is. It could be $25 million or a few million. Nobody knows those details.
