Of the 6 "SEC" titles in the last decade, 5 belong to Saban. If you took him out of the mix, you'd see more Big-10 and Big-12 champs, and almost assuredly one more title for Clemson. Suddenly the SEC doesn't look so dominant anymore.

How are Tennessee, Florida and Auburn looking these days?

You know, nothing's stopping you from being an SEC fan.

All while they schedule and bowl contract their way to as many favorable outcomes as possible,….

Didn't Alabama beat Georgia and LSU twice for the title in the last 10 years or so? That would be two non Saban sec teams winning more titles. Saban us actually keeping other sec teams from winning more titles.

I don't have to be an sec fan to see what happens in these games. They don't even need Saban to win titles. Ed freaking Orgeron, Gus Malzaub and Les Miles can win titles down there.

Really had to rack my brain to get to six SEC NC's. How many coaches on those have been fired since then? Thinking about a Tennessee championship requires a memory that few of their own fans have, let alone the rest of us.

It really is astounding isn't it? Six different teams from one conference. . Nobody else is even close. At some point you just have to accept that it's them and then there is everybody else.

Tennessee, Auburn and Florida are just a QB and a decent coach away from being a real threat again.

You might want to add “a defense” to the Tennessee part. Purdue has 600+ yards on them

7-6, 6-7, 6-7 in 2021 - Not even remotely close to being a threat.

Tennessee fans are the best. Talked shit about Purdue all week and are now blaming the field conditions and the refs. What a great game.

Very few down and out fan bases can keep their asses there,….. but they sure can. Horrid base

Pitt would have beat the crap out of MSU with Pickett. Would have been huge for that program.

Sucks for the sport.

Maybe, Walker may have been a difference for MSU too. WMU ran for 160 on them.

The problem most people have with the SEC isn’t about their great or championship teams. You’d be hard pressed to find college football fans who don’t respect how good Saban’s teams are or Meyer’s Florida teams were, etc. The biggest issue is the mediocre teams and their fan bases.

If I polled the Vol fans I know, at least 90% would say UT would easily beat ND, not only this year, but the last five years as well. They don’t even think schools like ND play real football. They think because they are in the same conference as great teams, they can’t possibly suck. Hence, when they lose to Purdue, it’s the refs fault. This is why the rest of the country enjoys watching their teams lose.

I, for one, am glad we are not Wisconsin. Some love the RTDB but their passing game is terrible.

Their status as a high end program is entirely dependent on flogging similar programs like Iowa and Minnesota. When they play a high end team they get exposed.
Essentially they are what the detractors say we are but I think we’re a lot closer to the top than they are.

Ha. Dude’s in deep with the SEC cult. Got the talking points down.

That was tongue in cheek.

Look, I don't like it but I've come to accept it. Once again, two SEC teams will more than likely play for the title this year. At this point, it should just be called the sec invitatinvitational.

Saw MSU won last night. As Bears fan and as someone who is tired Bama winning the natty almost every season I just can’t buy Mel Tucker.

His 2013 busted coverage week 17 against the Packers (when he was DC for the Bears) and his 2017-2018 busted coverage in the natty against Bama are unacceptable in games of that magnitude.

This isn’t Marcus Freeman having busts week 1 and 2 of the season in his first year coaching. These are end of the season busts in the final minute of do or die games with your season on the line.

Anyway I get he is having success. He seems like a good person and good culture builder as a coach but I can’t get past those busted coverages with him as the defensive coordinator. I wouldn’t have paid him $95 million dollars for 10 years that’s for sure.

IMO busted coverage means the player(s) fault not the coaches.

They beat each other up down here.

In reality, every year it’s the 2-3 good teams beating up on twelve mediocre to decent teams just like every other conference. The only difference is that they can get teams to move from decent to good quicker than other conferences. I’ll let people do their own speculation on that.

The issue everyone has with the SEC isn’t Bama or UGA. It’s the other teams and fans that like to pump up their average and mediocre teams by claiming their losses are to great SEC teams when there are only two in the conference. Occasionally three with LSU.

IMO, the SEC is a facade built on the backs of Saban & Urban. That conference didn’t receive the notoriety it has now until Saban came back to Bama after resurrecting LSU. Urban comes along in 2005 and builds a similar factory although it wasn’t built w/ staying power b/c Urban is his own worst enemy.

2003 - Saban leads LSU to NC before bolting for the NFL
2006 - Urban Meyer leads his Gators to his 1st BCS NC. (Bama is floundering under Mike Shula & NCAA sanctions)
2007 - Some idiot inherits a gold mine that Saban left for him and backs into the NC game w/ 2 losses to win the BCS NC (Saban gets more credit than Miles IMO…otherwise Miles would still be there) Lesticles is the NFL version of Barry Switzer to Saban’s Jimmy Johnson
2008 - Urban wins BCS NC #2 (NOTE: freshman QB Cam Newton plays in season opener before an ankle injury leads to medical RS)
2009 - Saban is back & so is Bama. BCS NC in T-Town…#2 for Saban
2010 - Cam Newton (after facing expulsion at UF & transferring to Auburn from Blinn JC) single-handedly delivers a BCS NC to the Plains. This was evident in the fact that Chizik was fired just 2 years later after the program fell off a cliff in the wake of Cam going to the NFL
2011 - Saban has his customary regular season loss which wakes up his giant of a program that ends up smothering LSU (led by the idiot) in the rematch in BCS NC. Saban shows his ultimate Big Game prep work as LSU’s offense rarely advanced into Bama territory in their non-competitive rematch.
2012 - Saban’s troops get caught sleep walking again vs Johnny Football in 1H of A&M game. They wake up to win it all in convincing fashion
2014 - Saban
2015 - Saban
2016 - Saban
2018 - Saban
2019 - Some idiot who gets fired 1.5 years later. Special thanks to Joe Brady & Joe Burrow
2020 - Saban
2021 - ?….come on…you know it’ll be Saban again.

Now I can agree that the above exploits can support the claim that SEC is best conference in more years than not. But the fact the other 12 teams ride the coattails of what Saban & (formerly) Urban accomplished/built is embarrassing for those fanbases. It shows the emotional insecurity when fanbases of mediocre to bad teams have to settle for waving a conference flag vs their team’s flag. You think tOSU fans are rooting for scUM to win their game today….LOL!

Winning is hard & even Saban is not immune to a slip up…but it’s rarely in money games for NC. It’s typically some day game in the middle of the season against a conference opponent who plays out of their mind while Bama sleepwalks. That’s typically been the wake up call for Saban’s boys and they roll from there. After all, is it easier for 18-21 year olds to get up for some in-conference middling opponent they see every year on a lazy day in October or to get up for the National Championship game vs an out of conference foe w/ cache in prime time for the entire world to watch?

In summary, SEC fans can thank Saban & (to a lesser extent) Urban for building the false impression that “it just means more” in the SEC. The “one-off” NCs won in that period were anomalies that had no chance of repeating themselves b/c the programs imploded soon thereafter.
