The odds are going to go where the money takes them but I wouldn't be surprised if ND is one of the biggest or the biggest underdog on this year's bowl schedule.

Healthy we can play with anybody. Despite starting the season without the Frozen Five, Springman and several others we went 6-0 and it would have been 7-0 if not for a controversial call. Then the injuries mounted and we couldn't overcome the execution deficiencies we had. We have talented freshman but they are 18 year olds playing against 22 year olds that are stronger and considerably more experienced.

"What tho the odd ... "

True and they even were great in the decision at FSU and the first 7 games, I assure you they will get smoked against LSU. Right now what is left to play with is no better than a MAC team on defense. Matter of fact there are MAC teams that are better than this on defense. This will be embarrassing. All you're doing is giving the nation a chance to laugh and crack on Notre Dame. Sad $%%#@.

Ranking the Bowls 1-38

19. Music City Bowl (Dec. 30, Nashville, Tenn.):
LSU vs. Notre Dame

The LSU passing defense had to be salivating over this matchup. Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson has been a turnover machine and now he’s going up against one of the best passing defenses in the country. That’s not good news for the Irish. On the flipside, even just getting a few points on LSU might be enough to win since its offense has been atrocious most of the season.

This has got to be our nightmare on Kelly Street. We play on NTV every week...

Despite one or 2 that suggest we are headed to the Russell Athletic bowl again even if we lose to Stanford a 10-2 ND is in the Fiesta Bowl or the very least the Peach Bowl. If not in CFP then its NY6 or bust!

A possibility could be a bowl game against Michigan if both teams have two losses. I have no idea which bowl it would be, but that could bring in a lot of money.

Screw that, I want 37-0 to remain the final meeting for as long as possible, even though it looks like they're working on scheduling something with Michigan in the future.

Just picked up a couple Peach Bowl (ND/FSU), and a couple Outback Bowl (UT/NW) tix.... Hoping both teams land. Would be nice to take Marta to see ND... lol.

Another interesting projection... USC vs Indiana in the Foster Farms Bowl...

I think the CBS projections are pretty good / directionally correct. Thinking the committee games are spot on.

Would love to play FSU and knock Maquire out of the game and go against Golson in the Bowl game.

Would ND play FSU?? I thought the peach bowl was ACC vs SEC. God I really don't want to play FSU, their fans a Michigan-like. McGuire would probably light up our D for 400 yds.

Used to be, however in 2014 they jumped into to the selection process and actually get playoffs every other year I believe. Finally brought back the "Peach" name too.

Is there any chance of a ND-OSU match up, or is the Peach pretty solid destination for ND?

here's some info on bowl tie ins...

ND
Notre Dame - eligible for ACC-contracted bowls. However, Notre Dame cannot be selected by an ACC bowl if there is an eligible ACC team with two or more wins than Notre Dame. For example, a 9-3 Duke team must be chosen over a 7-5 Notre Dame team. Notre Dame can play in Orange Bowl no more than twice over 12-year span, beginning in 2014, but has no limit on playing in any other New Year's Six bowls if selected (Notre Dame was ultimately selected to the 2015 Music City Bowl in lieu of another ACC team).

Atlantic Coast Conference[edit]

2015:

NOTE: ACC Champion (or best available team if champ in College Football Playoff) goes to Capital One Orange Bowl in years when Orange Bowl is not a semifinal in the CFP. In those years, the ACC plays the highest ranked team among the Big Ten, SEC, and Notre Dame. If it is the Big Ten, the ACC will take Big Ten's spot in the Citrus Bowl, with a team chosen before the Russell Athletic Bowl.

The SEC no longer has a tie in to the Peach Bowl it seems.

The following tie-ins exist for bowls in the years they are not hosting the national semifinals:
Rose Bowl — Big Ten #1 vs. Pac-12 #1
Sugar Bowl — SEC #1 vs. Big 12 #1
Orange Bowl — ACC #1 vs. SEC #2, Big Ten #2, or Notre Dame
Cotton Bowl — at-large or "Group of Five" (committee selection)
Fiesta Bowl — at-large or "Group of Five" (committee selection)
Peach Bowl — at-large or "Group of Five" (committee selection)

Both OSU and ND could fill the at large spots for the Fiesta I think.

Florida and Iowa, assuming they lose their CCs, will end up in the Sugar and Rose.

It was my understanding that if a conference champion was in the CFP, the Rose Bowl picked the 'next best team' from the Pac12 and Big Ten, not necessarily the loser of the conference championship game. If Iowa lose to Sparty, they may well fall behind OSU.

If the Sugar Bowl also uses 'next best team', that certainly wouldn't apply to Florida, given they would then be a 3 loss team.

Then again, maybe it is the runner-up from the conference championship games.

Just saw Fiesta Bowl vs. Houston.

Would be nice to end the year with a rout in a New Years 6.

Doubt it. Fla was 12 and got blown out and likely will get blown out again in the SEC champ game. That leaves Ole Miss. At #18 won the Egg Bowl big and will be the highest ranked SEC team behind Bama. That bid goes to the Sugar Bowl. Since OU gonna be in the playoff, the team they will play is likely gonna be TCU.

I remember some discussion on this topic from the selection folks last year... They basically said they will 1) try to keep the conference affiliations to support the bowl's history, and 2) will look at the CC runner up as being the second best when it comes to non-playoff games.

I'm sure they will throw all that logic out when it comes down to money though...

The Rose will likely be OSU/Iowa/MSU vs Winner of Pac 12 champ Stanford or USC

I do not think that the CFP committee decide on the non-playoff bowl pairings. I think that they only determine the rankings to get the first 4 teams, and then it is the actual bowl committees that decide on the teams in their bowl games

The last point is true though...money trumps pretty much anything else.

From wiki...which may not mean much :)

Teams
The teams playing in the Rose Bowl game will be the winners of the Pacific-12 and Big Ten conference championship games. If one or both of those teams play in a College Football Playoff semifinal game, the football committee will select the next best team in the same conference. The teams will be officially selected by the football committee of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association on Selection Sunday on December 6, 2015.
