Anyone into "Life Below Zero"?

I have never seen it, but listening to Glen Villeneuve on the Joe Rogan podcast and I'm intrigued.

Any season you'd recommend starting with? They are independent, from what I understand.

Don't you live in Minny or Wiscy? If that's what you are into, cancel Netflix and walk outside. Use the $120 you'll save next year and buy a couple pair of Wooly's old Sorel boots but do NOT buy Wiz's old duck boots, those are for soft New Englanders, not men hardened by tundra temps.

If you have Prime Video, check out The Bali Bod Squad. I think you'll like it.

Irish YJ, did we just become best friends? GREAT list!

Love both of them. Fauda S3 should be coming out in the next 3-4 months. Love Raz and both female leads are smoking. The gritty look at both sides takes it to another level. Hated the losses at the end of S2.

Luther is incredible too. Love the darkness, and the cast. I think this last season was it's last, but wouldn't be shocked if they did more given the low episode counts. Will miss Wilson.

If you like great foreign TV and aren't turned off by subs (some are in English), check out the following (no order). Every single one I've listed is fantastic.

1. Forbrydelsen (the original Danish noir "The Killing")
2. Broen / Bron (the original Danish / Swedish noir "The Bridge"
3. The Tunnel (English / French remake of Broen / Bron above)
4. Dark (German sci-fi)
5. The Returned (French sci-fi)
6. Trapped (Icelandic Noir)
7. Love/Hate (Irish organized crime)
8. Modus (Swedish noir)
9. Hinterland (Welsh dark crime - English and Welsh versions)
10. Shetland (Scottish crime)
11. Wallander (There are both Swedish and English versions, both are good)
12. Gomorra (Italian organized crime)

I'm watching Spiral (French Crime) and Thou Shalt Not Kill (Italian Crime) right now and both are very good.

I do live in MN, and it is damn cold. But these LBZ people are on another level.

The stories this Glen guy is telling are insane.

.

Thanks lol. Let me know if you have any suggestions. I try to watch a good amount of intl series. I have a lot of Euro pals that make recommendations, and Kodi is awesome for the UK stuff. IMO, so much better than most US mainstream stuff. Have you watched any of shows I listed?

Yup, I watch that (The Fall) when it first came out, and did a re-watch last holiday season.
Gillian has gotten hotter with age. I though she was cute during her X-files period, but she's one of those women who simply improves with age.

I really enjoyed Love/Hate. Two of the actors just stared in Dublin Murders, which I enjoyed, but thought could have been much better. I heard the books are really good.

Loved Nidge in Love/Hate.

Any other Irish series you recommend?

Not sure what you mean. Reload? You mean update? Mine gives me a notification when a new version is available and it's an easy download via any downloader app available on my Fire TV.

Guru? not sure what you mean here either. It's a Kodi build (if that's what you're talking about), but that's all I know about "guru". I just use straight Kodi from the Kodi.tv site, with the addon Exodus (for TV shows and movies). I used to use it for live streaming, but now I only use it for the TV and movie library. I know a bunch of people that use it for everything (series, movies, live streaming, music, home library), but I've been dumbed down for a while.

There's bugs every once in great while, but very very stable. Even the bugs are cleared up fast. I use it almost daily.

If you need some pointers, shoot me a PM. I've walked a ton of people through it. Very painless.

I've watched a season, but stopped because it's basically rinse repeat. Not nearly as entertaining as one would think.

there's a series on Netflx called Rebellion - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebellion_(miniseries)
Its a historical drama about the 1916 Rebellion in Ireland against English rule. It has a bunch of Game of Thrones actors in it, its quite cheesy but there are some good scenes.
The follow up season is called Resistance - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resistance_(miniseries)

It depicts the War Of Independence that followed the Rebellion.

Thanks. Just clicked on the link and looked at the cast and saw Perdita Weeks. That alone sold me lol... Love Greene and Fairley too. Saw a few folks from Love/Hate and Dublin Murders too.

Did you ever see Single Handed? Somebody recommended it and haven't gotten to it yet.

Barry Keoghan has a bit part (American Animals, Dunkirk, Marvel's Eternals). He's gonna be a household name in a few years, big talent.

Striking Out is decent enough - its a legal drama
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Striking_Out

The Young Offenders is funny, its a coming of age drama about inner city youths

Yup, Keoghan is pretty talented. He was in Chernobyl too.
I noticed straight away in Love/Hate, even with several really good actors around him.

I finished watching. I enjoyed it, because I like mobster stuff, but it was too long. A few scenes were drug out longer than they should have been.

To the bolded part. So many different stories of where he's buried. Here's a recent story from a mafia guys son.

To me, these two phrases are an oxymoron.

Watched the first two Witcher episodes last night,... not bad. Yennefer’s backstory was interesting as I remember reading about it mentioned but only briefly. Overall good in some ways and could be much better in others.

Started watching the Witcher as well and was really impressed with the quality of the show and the story so far. I have not played the game so cannot compare the story line

Watched the 1st half of E1 (Witcher) but started it too late and fell asleep. So far so good. Looks well done.

Really looking forward to Messiah on Jan1 as well.

I think the Witcher is amazing. Really starts to pick up on episodes 3-4. Love the soundtrack to for the show. Overall even though the series is based on the books, seems to take a lot of inspiration from the games which is the best of both worlds.

Whiskey, I’m gonna ask you as I can’t find answers through google etc,... I read SoD and LW and played Witcher 3 but can’t remember Ciris whole deal being fully explained. Why does Nilfguard want her so badly? Why is she living with Cintra to begin with? Isn’t she the Emperors daughter? I’m forgetting some major piece and my wife was asking my all these questions about it,...

I don’t know how to do spoilers so I answered your question in white text below:

Ciri is the Emperor’s daughter, but no one is aware of that but himself, Geralt and a few others. She’s in Cintra becaus she’s from Cintra the daughter of Pavetta and granddaughter of Queen Calanthe, and she’s the heir to the throne their. One of the reasons why he wants her. She also has a strong claim to a few of the other Northern thrones, especially Skelliga (sp?). Having Ciri will help strengthen his grip and validate his conqest/claims of the North. In the games he basically wants her because he has no other heir, while the books he wants to marry her. Yes, marry his daughter. I believe there is some prophecy about their child ruling the world or soemthing.

She also possesses the Eldar blood which give her her powers and is the reason why various other entities will be after her as well.

I've recently finished S2. I thoroughly enjoyed S1 but most of S2 didn't really do it for me. And it might partially be because I enjoyed S1 so much. Would be hard to top that.
