First congrats to Bama. ND got taken behind the woodshed, no debating that.

Thank you seniors, sucks it ended like this, but you've got a ton to be proud of.

Offense should be better next year, although losing Eifert and Cave will hurt. But there is a ton of youth and talent especially at the skill positions.

Kind of a bit bummed but i'll leave it at that for now.
Thank you for a great ride this year and reminding me what is good in college football. College boys lost to the pros tonight and I see no shame in that. Get ready for next year and thanks to this group of senior players for laying the groundwork for whats to come. Go Irish!

Remember what you felt like after the 2010 Navy game. Remember what we did to Navy in 2011.

Tausch was magnificent.

yup. it was a result of us not staying composed and panicking when we fell down 14-0 so quickly. Tried to make too much happen and didn't play our brand. Oh well. 12-1 and were complaining about getting mangled in the NC game. It's better than bitching about being 8-5

I don't think it was composure, just they way the game was called and planned. Diaco got taken to school. He is good and will learn from this, but he got a good ole fashioned whipping.

My biggest regret is bk not getting the 3rd year triumph. Hell of a season for the ball coach.

This defense going out like this is sad.

Play calling was fine IMO on offense.defense looked so focused on the run that they left the pass open.

They have at least two first round O linemen. This is a damn good team we lost to. No shame. Suit up in the fall.

The moment was just bigger than us. Tomorrow is a new day.

I saw a lot of guessing from the LB's but on a few plays when we stuffed the middle Lacy/Yeldon would just bust outside without anyone there to miss a tackle.

Pretty shocked that the moment became too big for this team. They looked like they were playing not to lose, staff included.

We lost battles that we knew, if we lost, it would be bad.

We lost the line of scrimmage battle. Badly. As a result, our secondary got exposed.

Combine that with bad tackling and you will have two sick RB's and the best O-line in years expose you.

I am optimistic for the future, but can't look that far yet.

Well said.

I feel bad for Riddick. I hope he gets picked up by a good team. He's got the heart of a lion.

Our Defensive Secondary was a recruited WR and a recruited RB, and two safeties that weren't very highly recruited. It very much showed tonight. Still very proud. Hopefully this film will be showed throughout the offseason. I really like our schedule next year, hopefully we meet Bama again and get redemption ala Duke-UNLV style. GO IRISH

Diaco had nothing to do with it. They didn't have to double any of our down linemen, which left their huge talented guards to block Manti and Fox, who hadn't been in the situation all year. So, Diaco had to blitz Motta. Motta can't match up with Lacy and Yeldon. They ran right by him. So, not being able to stop their running game with our base defense or with safety blitzes, our secondary were sitting ducks. We're lucky they missed on a couple of deep passes. They could have put up 60.

Bama has so much depth and talent. The O Line was insane. They got a 3 yard push every single snap. Lacy with 7 yards per carry....

We will get there. This game says more about Bama than it does about ND in my opinion. We have youth all over the field and most of us were predicting 8-9 wins. We overachieved and created a great foundation.

Thanks for the ride boys.

Look for ND to improve next season. Go Irish!!

Answered my question.

Even with our D-line losing the battle, I never thought the negative impact of that would be compounded by us tackling poorly...just so uncharacteristic.

It's simple really, ND is very willing to give you the strong side of the field post corner. Our safeties were/are not fast enough to cover it. This has been the case all year, but only a few teams were able to take advantage of it.

Very true. We were very fortunate that we faced very few capable QB's this year. It hid a lot of deficiencies we had in the secondary.

our 3-4 was much flatter tonight that it ever has been. Plus, the LB's had their hands down for 5 down numerous times.

They didnt do anything different in the 3-4 tonight then the rest of this season.

Do you think it was his strategy to constantly have your down lineman try and shoot upfield? Like we mentioned before, getting upfield so quickly allowed the OL to move upstream to the LB's. I really think the DL strategy was way too aggressive.

I really don't get why Alabama fans were apparently chanting SEC, Alabama is at a different level than everyone else in the country (No doubt in my mind they'd beat Texas A&M tonight) and the rest of the SEC is just piggybacking along for the ride now. IMO this year there was:

Level 1: Alabama

Level 2: Notre Dame, Oregon, Texas A&M, Stanford
Level 3:KSU, LSU, Florida, Oklahoma,Clemson, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State
etc.

Level 2 and 3 not in a particular order btw

If the game wasn't such a crapshoot, I would watch again and see. But at first glance, I thought I saw 5 down lineman more than once or twice.

Jesus we have some schizophrenic girlfriends on this site. "Please Bobby make a baby with me!" "Diaco is shhhit!" I really doubt that Diaco planned to have Alabama win virtually all of the one on one battles and then have the referees decide that every judgement call should go Alabama's way early on... There is no damn game plan that can compensate from their O-linemen beating the opposing d-lineman, the rb being huge, strong and juking like Walter Payton and the receivers getting wide open deep against corners who had to play one on one way too much. Oh and McCarron had all day to find receivers and he ain't bad when he has time.
