I have BF3 currently...thinking about picking up the other one. What I have read is BF3 is very team based and highlights support roles vs the run and gun of MW. If you run around "Halo" style in BF3 you will not live long. BF3 is a great MP game, with huge maps, pretty realistic gun physics etc. Where it misses to date is, hit recognition, and spawn camping. Snipers also dominate in this game to an extent that pushes logic.

This is basically what I've heard about BF3. Everyone seems to love it. Only bad thing I heard is that there are a few glitches in the game. Oh well, every game's going to have some glitches. I actually have never played any of the battlefields, always been a COD guy. Haven't bought either but will probably buy MW3.

Gotta go with MW3, I enjoy the ideas of BF3 but the gameplay of MW3 is just so silky smooth. 60 fps on consoles is one sexy stat.

+1... I have PS3 and only play 3 games (My son gets me sucked in) NCAA, Madden, and COD. Never played battlefield, but it seems to be the rage this year. Infinity ward is up for the COD this year, and I think they put out a better game (cod) when they are up.

This year was my first dabble in BF3, as I was always a MW guy before. I will say this, if you play the Rambo style like in MW you won't last long. You really have to work as a Squad to experience all the nuances. I do like that Kill/Death Ratio is weighted less than what you do to help your squad. Depending on what class you play as, you can earn experience points by dropping ammo, identifying targets, reviving a fallen teammate, and a whole list of other things. This game is pretty epic, but I will also get MW to compare.

See all that sounds really sweet and something I'd be interested in. I'm one of those guys who will play domination but have an awful KD ratio but will have 4 or 5 captures and a handful of defends. The team aspect of it sounds very enticing. Hate learning new controls though for similar games.

See my problem is that I can't stand having to rely on my teammates that much. There were so many times in the beta where my teammates would do the rambo thing and it would screw me. I don't want to waste my time going through 3 matches before I find a group that actually plays the game well.

I run a business, and after the time I spent playing oblivion, I may have to take vacation for this one.

Yuuup... I don't even want to think about how much total time I've dumped into Morrowind and Oblivion, seems like Skyrim is going to continue the trend.

As for the 2 competing shooters- I'll probably pick up MW3 sometime in January and BF3 when it hits the bargain bin. They both look good, but I want to see how MW3's story plays out.

Yeah, I hear you. When I'm playing domination, securing/holding B is the only thing I worry about. Seems like every time I die (which is often) B is getting captured. I like playing with people who worry less about the KDR.

I play with a group of friends, so we don't have that much of a problem with that. I also like to take territories, and blow up opponents vehicles. I usually take a jet, or helo to the other side of the map, and lay down as many anti vehicle mines as I can. This usually works pretty well, and is nice when 10 minutes after when I am fighting to secure a territory, I see a couple kills on vehicles.

BF3 team orientated gameplay. Though if your team is terrible you are going to get whopped no matter how good you are. Larger maps give more of the ability to flank the objectives. Though its not realistic, it is more realistic because you have to account for bullet drop over distance.

COD series. One man army type of game style. Really no strategy just human wave attacks, more unlocks and kill streak bonuses which keeps people from going after objectives so they can protect their streak. Perfect game for the ADD generation.

Too bad they're still using the MW1 engine...I already own 4 games that are hardly any different whatsoever from eachother. MW1 still plays better and feels more balanced than any CoD since.

That's why I am voting BF3...only because Skyrim isn't an option.

I will be picking up MW3 after work today. And with out a doubt in my mind it will be just like all the others, you can pretty much go ape **** on people and dominate after a few hours of gameplay. MW games have always been pretty easy to master, but they are fun, and addicting as hell.

BF3 is what i play when i want a challenge. This game is much, much harder to master than MW. I ve been playing it since it came out 2 weeks ago and it still blows my mind how incredibly non arcade like this game is. Like BestBIrish said, you must work as a team. The run and gun tactic very rarely works, sometimes it does in death match but even then, you literally can only take 2 bullets and you're done. Very realistic, very intense, very challenging. AWESOME GAME!1

You gotta have em both IMO

I see no reason why this is an insult. Using the same engine is usually sign of comfort and leads to a well polished product. also, you say there has been no cod made so far that is better than 4, but the studio that actually MADE cod4 has only made one sequel since so you can't act like black ops and waw were real follow ups to cod4. infinity ward has only made mw2 and mw3 and since I doubt you've actually played mw3 (since it just came out) you're basing your opinion on one game, hardly a pattern of regression.

used to be a MW2 and Black ops addict, full prestige on both, but it got to the point where it was too repeditive, BF3 offers a much more team oriented experience, its way more fun if you have a group of rele good induvidual players to play with, then it just becomes a matter of customizing the guys on your squad according to each map

They're are repackaging the same game with minimal improvements. The single player lasts 5 hours.
Yes two different studios do the two lines of CoD games...
MW1, MW2 - Infinity Ward
WaW, BlOps - Treyarch

MW3 is being done by what 2 or 3 groups all working together and seperate on different parts of the game.

I played it this afternoon my friend...mid 30s level character of my buddies. I did not buy it and won't. Nothing really new or fresh about it. They need to rebuild the graphics engine. It feels like 2007. I also played Battlefield 3 last week...PS3 and PC versions. It feels way more involving and actually requires me to think. I like that.
My days of mindless shooters like CoD and Halo are long gone. I like to use my dome. I gotta say that the CoD games need to be less linear in the single player. I don't like handholding in video games. It all comes down to what you want out of your gaming. I realize that people buy these games for multiplayer as the single player is pretty pathetic.

Well polished product isn't exactly in CoD's MO. Those games are full of glitches and exploits. Not saying that BF3 isn't, but it's a brand new FANTASTIC gaming engine that is on it's first run.

I must say that the console versions of both seem to pale in comparison to the PC versions...but that is generally always the case.

Still gotta pick Skyrim...can we get that added to the poll?

haha oh HCTI, just wait til Friday and my Skyrim thread unless someone beats me to it!
I'll be sure to start a "Follow TheFlyingAlamo's Skyrim character" thread.
I'll add hourly updates on my progress, I'll ask for suggestions on what decisions to make. It should be interactive and fun.

Not really.
But I imagine someone will be starting a Skyrim thread.
