Bank Help

This is completely unrelated to sports and for that, I am sorry.

I just read that Bank of America is gonna start charging $5 to use their debit card and that just put me over the edge with them. I have had numerous problems with them and this was the final straw.

I am researching for a new bank. Any type of recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Do not go to Star Financial. I have them and am highly unhappy. I would love to find a good bank.

Per transaction?! If so, I'm out. I never DON'T use my card. I never carry cash. Bye bye, BOA. I've heard dumped they are in big trouble. This only furthers that suspicion, anyway.

No it is supposed to be a monthly fee

Find a financially sound regional bank or local credit union to do business with.

I would also recommend a credit union. I use Notre Dame FCU actually.

Correct, $5/month. I was just walking through the room where my wife was watching a news program and the anchorwoman said she had cut her BankAmericard in half on the air and was urging others to do likewise. She suggested finding a local/regional bank.

I have 3.

TCU (Teachers Credit Union) is really good if you're in Indiana. based in South Bend and has a good presence in Indianapolis now.

If you want a big national bank, Chase is good, and you can't throw a stick and not hit one of their locations.

I really like Capital One, if you don't mind the fact you can't really find an actual physical bank. If you don't mind doing your banking exclusively on the internet, they are very solid.

Local Credit Union---they might even be human scale enough to remember your name and smile at you.

Still amazes me that I (we) will be charged for using our own money. I guess you really can legally rob someone blind.

Chase eh? I was also thinking maybe of going back to Navy Federal Credit Union.

I'm probably over analyzing myself but it just really angered me and I needed to vent.

Don't leave it here, tell it to BA. Send them your card in pieces.

I should have thought before I asked my question. Obviously not even a greedy-*** bank could do $5 per transaction. Still, I'm going to look into switching banks.

You can thank your government for this. The financial "reform" they passed has added an insane amount of expense to banks, and guess what, they are going to pass it on to you! Shocker. So this isn't the fault of the banks, this is the fault of the US Federal government.

BANK LOCAL. Find a local bank and switch to them.

Note to future posters in this thread. Perhaps it's not wise to post where you do your banking in an open forum. Yes, the BOA thing is a hot topic right now, but revealing where your transactions are done is not a wise choice considering that many of you have your e-mail addresses posted on your contact information and most hackers are smart enough to figure out a password if they have that info. Wise up, people.

This part was right.

Banks needed to reign in their heavy leverage on financial instruments. They were too risky, and when the MBS market crashed, they were at risk of defaulting. If the banks fail, the economy stops working - companies can't get money. If the economy stops working, we go into depression.

Government intervened to stabilize the banks. Banks aren't lending due to the increased capital requirements & conservatism, and the economy is not getting enough money injected into it - hence the expensive government spending.

Not saying the stuff they're spending it on is right, just explaining the thought process.

Same **** as FDR - Bernanke is actually pretty smart

Credit card, pay your balance in full. Get a cash back card with no annual fee. The bank will actually pay you, and you'll have zero interest.

It's smarter than cash.

I've had PNC for about 6 years now. They've been great and I've never had any issues with them.

I've had problems finding a good bank lately. I went to two recently, one said they required blood to make a withdrawl and the other put me in a room with dirty magazines when I said I'd like to make a deposit? WTF?

Thank you, Terry [robot won't let me green-rep you but this is better anyway], for the real information. Always love to hear someone who knows something.

I use Schwab for my banking and mortgage. Very pleased with them....especially with all ATM fees being reimbursed, mobile check deposits, and a checking account that actually pays interest.

US Bank is pretty awesome. I'd suggest them, but then again I'm a student with empty pockets so maybe you're looking for something more sophisticated.
