Haven't seen this posted elsewhere: Dantonio to stay at MSU.

Last year he received a contract extension through 2018. This year he is getting a raise from the $1.9 million that he is currently making to the $4 million range. His wife must be one hell of an agent!

With Dantonio doubling down on Sparty, it will be interesting to see if they can turn their current success into a sustainable, long-term challenge to Ann Arbor. I believe Hoke will get two more years minimum at the helm of the U.S.S. Wolverine. If next year turns out anything like this year, I think MSU begins making serious in-roads on once ironclad Michigan feeder schools.

Of course, the folks on the MSU 247 board are already prepared to raise Dantonio in effigy. Kind of amusing. You can tell which ones have only been paying attention to college hoops for the last few decades. ;)

It's crazy to think that "little brother" under Dantonio has beaten the Wolverines every year since 2008 except for that 2012 season...and it was a 10-12 score. Dantonio has had their number.

Pretty sure MSU graduated at least 2 of their starting/top WRs from last year and their pass catching TE Sims. So all, or 3 of 4, of their best catching options weren't back this year. Part of the issue for them was they expected DeAnthony Arnett who transfered up from Tenn the previous year to be a stud, and he's been invisible.

Naw man I think 2012 offense was Mumphrey, Fowler and Lippett. They were all back in 2013 (Kings replacing Mumhrey). Previous year they had Nicholls (former QB) who then exhausted his eligibility.

he would pretty much keep his job forever as long as he kept this up regardless of bowl wins/conference championships. MSU will need to step it up now recruiting nationally to really overtake the SCUMbags

Anyone else think the arms race in the B1G many predicted in response to Urban Meyer might be beginning this offseason? Michigan making big moves and spending big money on assistants, Penn State grabbing Franklin, etc?

MSU and OSU are set as far as coaching, Franklin's a knockout recruiter and the sanctions begin to ease this cycle (so he's got that to sell), if Gary Anderson works out at Wisconsin the B1G could rapidly become respectable again, even if UM and Nebraska never turn it around.

No.

None of the things you mentioned changes the fact that they're still a 2nd rate football conference.

The only thing that approaches my disdain for the sec is big 10 homer fan boys ranting about how good they are.

I think the only thing the big 10 has going for it is its location amongst a heavily populated portion of the U.S. Most of the schools in those states represent the only semi-legitimate football school in their respective state. People + lack of other options = inflated sense of importance.

**This mini-rant is not directed at you, chubler, just in general.

I think Hoke is going to find himself looking for another job in another season or two. They've had 5 losses ore more 6 times since 2008 or something, right? Hoke has had really one good season, and it's debatable that it was smoke and mirrors in a weak league. As far as those assistants, they thought they were going after a big fish when they picked up Alabama's OC, but what they got was sloppy seconds. Saban cast him out for Kiffin...so, how good could he really be?

I think for the foreseeable future the B1G will be dominated by OSU and MSU (As long as Dantonio and his staff remain mostly instact). Most of the other teams will be doormats, save for a few. Wisconsin will probably have some good years, I'm not sure if they'll be as good as they were under Bret though. I'm not sure what Michigan's problem is, other than coaching. They can recruit, they should be knocking out 10 win seasons every year. I'm enjoying their slide all the same. The rest of the B1G isn't worth mentioning. Nebraska is probably the only team with a chance at success given their history, they've fallen a bit though and will need some change to get things rolling again.

Hoke will be back for one more year after this year. The schedule is setup to go 9-3 at bare minimum losses (ND, OSU, MSU). Any less than that he should be fired.

UM can rip our schedule all they want, calling us chickens and whatever, but I wouldn't pay to be a season ticket holder for UM. That OOC is a fucking joke.

Agreed 1000x on that hellhole of a conference. But they do have money, and lots of it, and you'd think that at some point they'd start spending it. Who knows, maybe I'm just having pipe dreams of northern football in general revving back up and beating the SEC into submission, but I personally hope this B1G spending to get good coaches becomes a trend and not just a one-year fluke. The B1G getting better is the most direct path I see to a scenario where the conferences are relatively equal in the long run, which is hugely beneficial for ND.

So, after things heated up again between Maryland and the ACC recently, and the rumors that the ACC was trying to poach a few teams from the B1G, conference realignment talk is buzzing on B1G boards again. They're still pretty sure that a few teams from the ACC will be in their pocket once the Maryland situation "shakes out." They're confidant that the talks have been going on behind closed doors the whole time, and it will be a done deal once Maryland is complete. Personally I think it's hogwash. What say you, IE?

I watched the Boilers, but only caught a little of the other games. I'll probably watch the championship.

Son was downtown Indy yesterday for the St. Patrick's Day celebration. I asked him what he did while he was down there. First words out of his mouth, "We gave some Michigan fans a hard time". lol

PSU only plays 2 ranked teams this year. So pathetic. They pretend like they matter each year,
I think that is about the going rate in the BIG Ten this year, and I wouldn't be suprised if that number was at the top of their conference. I'm not defending the schedule at all, just the fact that its more than just them.

Edit: Just checked and most teams have 2 or 3 ranked opponents scheduled. Purdue and Rutgers have 4 a piece, and Ohio State is the lone ranger with a total of 1 ranked opponent.

Yeah, Rutgers didn't get any favors with their schedule the first year. I hear Maryland's isn't that great either.
