My dad usually had enough common sense for an entire village, but even he could do something boneheaded occasionally. When I was about 10, he had me help him burn some trash at the end of our garden, next to a hayfield. It was windy. I remember thinking that it was too windy for this but assumed he knew what he was doing. About 35 scorched acres and two volunteer fire departments later, we finally got it all extinguished. I remember my dad, my uncle who lived nearby, and a few neighbors all dragging disk harrows like the guys in the video to create fire breaks. My dad was pretty embarrassed about it all!
