i still dont get why (besides for TV hype) we have preseason rankings. Its all potential, start after week 3 so at least you have some hard numbers to go by and not just last year and some summer reports.

It is all completely meaningless, but it kills some time. I almost don't like how high we are, we just get shoved up there because we are ND. The potential is there, but it's been there for the last few years as well.

No, they're not. They're underrated when they start 5-0. They're a laughing stock when they drop their last 7 games and finish 5-7...every...single...season.

This whole scene is so similar to 1964 its eye opening. A dormant program waiting-waiting-waiting, an arch rival just off a NC ( 2/3 years back ) down but still loaded with talent and the last game of the season (southern cal), big name big 10 opponents not quite what they had been, Pitt, Navy ( who just beat ND with Staubach ), a new coach who everyone was hoping to lite the afterburners, players who were so hungry for success that they not only bought in but many changed positions, a student body ready to be put into a frenzy, man its eerie, a defense that came out of nowheresville to lead the nation in many stats. Even down to some people thinking the coach was overrated and too enthusiastic. If you read 'Resurrection' its almost crazy how similar it is. If this season is in any way like some or all of 1964 we are in for Mr Toad's wild ride here boys. I'm really looking forward to this capaign. 'Go Irish'.
