My parents, for some crazy reason when i was a kid, bought my older brother these at the mall of america. But they wouldn't by me anything. I was the maddest 12 year old you've ever seen.

Reebok used to be the shit, who could forget the Shaqnosis?

When Reebok first hit the market in the mid-80s they were pretty much ”aerobic” shoes. They had the softest leather so they were super comfortable. Girls would buy the high tops (w/ two Velcro straps) in multiple colors. Boys would by the lo-tops or the men’s high tops w/ one Velcro strap w/ their “tight-rolled” jeans hem sitting just above the shoe…LOL!

As a Celtics fan, I still remember Dee Brown winning the dunk contest in some Reebok Pumps. Of course, he’d pump up the shoe before each dunk for effect. We had it good in the 80s-90s

Still the heavyweight champ after all these years. Makes me feel good to see all these kids (girls & boys) wearing AF1's today. Hard to believe guys who played in these in College/NBA are 60+. Where tf does time go?

I like ‘em. They just end up being sooo bulky. I prefer a slimmer shoe.

I couldn’t imagine playing basketball in them. Like two dead weights on your feet as you run up and down.

My shoe collection is essentially Salomon, Altra, Alden, Barker Black, LL Bean (Bean boots), and I think I have a pair of old Chacos. That’s it.

The ones you buy now are not what I wore in the 80's. I wore lows first off, the leather was butter soft and the sole wasn't as stiff You could take them right out of the box and wear them in a game. Today's version is a fashion shoe with crap synth leather. Back in the day, they were 10x the playing shoe than any of the early Jordan's although I didn't mind the ugly J2's for hooping outside.

Shoe companies finally gave up pushing inferior shoes on basketball players and started copying tennis shoes with the Kobe 5's. Now, every brand has tennis shoe knock offs in their hoops line up.

This isn't what most of you guys think of when the word sneakerhead is used, but this is one of my best friends. He has sold most of his collection at this point, but at one time he was one of the most well known sneakerheads in the world. Nike used to fly him out to OR on the regular and do photo shoots with some of his collection. He used to have an old farmhouse and his entire basement was set up like a shoe store - he had slat walls with the individual shoe shelves set up galore. He was named one of the world's top sneaker collectors in Sneaker Freaker (a sneaker collector's magazine).

In 1992ish my mom worked at Salvation Army and scored me a pair of #9 USA Dream team Jordan’s that were donated. I wore those babies out.

Man how life has changed. Used to walk around with a toothbrush in my pocket in case my sneakers got scuffed up. Now I walk around in Kane recovery shoes. Lived through the first Jordans, suede Pumas, shell top Adidas, and my personal favorite Bo Jackson cross trainers. You guys are bringing me back.

Ohh I need to do the toothbrush thing!

I had a pair of the Bo Jackson trainers when I was in middle school. Refused to stop wearing them even though the smelled so bad and had a huge hole in them.

I was an Aasics guy in high school because I liked their wrestling shoes. Now I stick with whatever is on sale when I need a new pair lol

I think AF1's and Legends came out the same year. AF1's were first released to NBA players and flagship college teams as a team shoe in ahead of the 82-83 season. They were available to the retail public soon after in silver or through team shoe suppliers in team colors but no one wore them outside of NBA and a few college players. AF1's remained the premier team shoe option through the '83-'84 season. In '84-'85, they gave us AF1's for practice and in our Christmas swag bag but they weren't the official team shoe for games.

As for Legend's, they were the team shoe that started the AF1 general design up top but didn't have air soles. They replaced the Blazer as the team shoe until Nike came up with the Air Ship which started the Dunk/AJ design language. Can't throw out these names without mentioning the Hoyas (Nike's official name was Terminators which absolutely no one used). These were a mix up of both Legends & Air Ships and replaced both for Georgetown.

BTW...

If any of you guys still hoop and aren't Kobe or Steph converts... I'd check into these GT Hustle 2's. They look like a great indoor shoe... even in The U colorway which is something I ever pictured myself typing.

one of my buddies in high school had the “Hoya” Nikes. Of course, his read “NIKE” on the back instead of “HOYAS” but everyone knew what they were modeled after. I’m surprised the AF2 haven’t been re-released. IIRC, they came out in the late 80s. Weren’t quite as popular but I liked them.

I had those too.
White hightop with the navy swoosh and NIKE across the heel.
