I didn't see a thread for this. Just curious if there are any sneakerheads here?

I have a loose appreciate of shoe culture, primarily on the Nike side. My 14 year old has also picked up an interest and is trying to convince me to get into reselling.

He's obsessed with everything Jordan at the moment, which is cool, because that was a good chunk of my youth. My parents could never afford them when I was a kid but I always wanted them. But it's fun having a common interest with my teenager.

He spends a lot of time on StockX and GOAT looking at options and prices, mostly for me to tell him no way.

I’m not a sneaker head per se but my 19 yr old son is. He resells on GOAT. He snagged some pairs of the last style of Yeezys before Kanye broke up w/ adidas (maybe they’re back together…I can’t keep up). Also, tons of Nike dunks. Some Jordans but dunks seem to rule the day. The latest leather NB have been good for re-sale as well.

Yeah, there’s lots of colorways of dunks that seem to do well. I have a pair myself but much prefer my Jordan 1 lows. Less bulky and more comfortable.

I just resold a pair of the Jordan 4 bred reimagined. Made only 50 bucks because they seemed to be readily available. Could have probably made more if I sat on them for a while.

I don’t get the Yeezy sensation at all. But that’s probably cuz I’m in my 40s now.

I have 47 pairs of New Balance trail joggers.

Does that count?

All New Balance jokes aside, I picked up a pair of these Fresh Foam Roav RMX slip ons and immediately bought 2 more pairs for when these die. F*** laces for life.

Got the first pair at Marshall's for $25. Next two pairs cost me $50 ea on Amazon.

I’ve definitely noticed NB had upped their game of late.

Not a big Hoka guy because of price but they are starting to hit the Marshall's/TJ Maxx / Ross racks around here finally for $50-$80. I'll try these slip ons when they hit $50. Still at $90.

I’ve always wondered what their hook is. Is it factory reject stuff? Products that just didn’t sell? I’ve never been against buying from those stores but quality never seems the same.

Some companies... like Nike, build 2nd rate models for that vertical. Some companies like Hoka are dumping old stock and may in the future have an outlet line for that vertical. I scored some North Face thermal slippers which I had previously paid $70 at the North Face store for $19.95 at Marshalls and they are exactly the same.

You guys are a bunch of dorks. Just give me some Italian loafers and keep the ridiculous sneakers for the teenagers.

Currently breaking in a pair of Bally (Swiss not Italian) and currently wearing a fresh new pair of To Boot New York (definitely Italian) that don’t need breaking in.

My understanding is that it’s a little bit of everything. Depending on the location of the store you can score some good deals but mostly it’s the same ole crap. I did snag an Eton & a Bugatchi button up at a Marshall’s in LA a few years back. Lately I’ve noticed Johnnie-O & Peter Millar dumping some product at those stores as well. My wife loves hitting those stores up. For me, there’s way too many online retailers that make it easy to score quality stuff when it hits clearance.

I don’t get the Yeezy sensation either but it does utilize that adidas foam cushioning (can’t remember the name of it) that is pretty nice.

When I was a kid, we’d travel to Chicago suburbs to visit family. My aunt & uncle never had kids, so my aunt always insisted on buying me a pair of sneaks for “back to school”. The first model of Air Jordans had been released so when she asked me what I wanted I jokingly pointed to a pair and said “those”. My mom said “absolutely not” but my aunt insisted. Keep in mind, that first pair was probably the only version that didn’t retail $100+. IIRC, they were around $65 which was outrageous for a pair of sneakers back then. I wore those things out before making them my skateboarding kicks so they were ultimately destroyed. Wish I knew then what we know now. I saved the box b/c I stored crap in it. Cleaning out the attic one day, I was throwing the box out when I discovered the tag that came w/ the shoes. It was the one w/ a pic of Michael doing his famous Jumpman pose. For the hell of it, I threw it on ebay where it got immediate offers for over $100. Glad I didn’t throw that away.

Anyone remember the Reebok pumps? Came out back in '88 or '89. The oldest boy wanted a pair for his birthday. They sold for something like $150 which was a hell of a lot of money for sneakers back then. With five kids, I told him if he got them, we couldn't afford to get him Xmas presents. He didn't care. Just wanted a pair. He wore those puppies out.

That's awesome!

The bottoms would have deteriorated over that time even if you'd kept them and not worn them. I can't imagine having a real OG pair of Jordan 1's. They'd still be worth a ton.
