I've already said I was fine with certain opt outs. But I don't believe you should be able to opt out just because there is gay representation in a book. The Bible, Quran or any other holy book or religion shouldn't be taught in public school
IMO those texts serve as some of the most reliable historic documents we have from those times. I think they should be taught in school through a historical lense rather than religious.

That's the exact stance I'm typing up. There's a vast difference between teaching about them as historical documents vs teaching the Bible

Does it tho? Are we ok with tax dollars going to secular schools? What if the Somalian communities in Minnesota started Muslim schools? I know at least one poster on here would be vehemently against that
BS

How about we give them a real "choice" with nationwide school choice where tax money follows the student?
Because it's a dumbass idea that would only further exacerbate the wealth inequality in this country and serve to further set back impoverished communities?

Good Lord. That's been my hypothetical example from the start, but you said you weren't OK with that.
My bad. I misunderstood your stance. From everything I've seen that's not what's happening in Oklahoma, because if it was they would have multiple versions too teach the difference and historical evolution of the Bible

Nope. This is where you guys don't get it. I went to Catholic schools until HS. I was taught religion in the Catholic schools. Religion wasn't taught in the public HS I attended. That's the way it should be. Send them to private school? That's not an answer. They're aren't many families that can afford to send their kids to private schools if they don't agree with religion or LGBQT doctrine people want to teach in public schools. There's a lot of people that don't like their money paying for vouchers to private schools. This would be like me telling you, "You don't like Trump's plan on heath care for Trans? Go get your own private care".

Contrary to Toronto's false acquisition that I'm a racist bigot towards browns and Muslims I'm not. What I don't want them to do is impose their beliefs and practices in public space and respect the culture and lifestyle of the country they have come to. I don't want a Rabbi, Minister or Priest doing it either.
Never said that.

I asked you if you believe every religion should’ve judged based on their most extreme elements. You have classified Muslim immigrants as wanting and endorsing Sharia Law.

I’ve given numerous examples of extreme elements within Christianity and Judaism that we don’t blanket those followers with, but why are you ok doing that with Muslims. You can laugh react, post a meme, or say you’re not going to respond but it’s on to clarify your position.

Yes..the same way you would do with any other historical document...or any text used as source material for that matter.
Treat the Bible like any other scholarly text… do you realize what you’re saying and agreeing to?

Yes. If you treat it any other way in a public school, you are no longer treating it as a supplemental historical document/source(which is how Oklahoma wants to use it), but as infallible and "The Bible"...rather than "the bible." The Bible/the bible is not above being critically analyzed.

You don't get to have your cake and eat it too. Not complicated.

I believe Maine has rural private schools that serve as the school in general. Should they be defunded?
Private =/= to religious. If they are religious, yes, they should be. If they are simply private schools but have no religious affiliation, like Wellington in Ohio..I see less of a reason to defund them

Religious schools nationwide already get Federal funding anyways. It just can only be used for narrow instances.

If they're religious I would prefer not. But I'd also say I'd prefer to leave it to the state and for funding not to come from federal funds

They are religious private schools (i think). Granted, I believe they are rather remote. Saves the state money to just fund existing schools.

Homeless/Needy (1) (2) A simple search shows a lot of LGBTQ groups organize book drives and other resource drives for the homeless...especially since LGBTQ youth are disproportionately likely to be homeless.

Anyways....the point of having books like these available in school is to educate people on the reality of the world around them and improve attitudes towards marginalized groups. It's an education/empathy initiative. Why in the hell would homeless people or the elderly be priorities for an education initiative when they have other much more pressing needs such as shelter, health, hygiene, mental health etc?

The fact that you think this meme proves a point just kind of shows how fucking stupid you are.

This is a very funny line of reasoning from a justice whose judicial school of thought spent over a decade consistently suing the one baker in Colorado who wouldn’t cater a gay wedding
She's still serving Demand Justice. It's why they wanted her.
