I haven't researched, but heard this was one of Saban's worst classes and it still lands at #7.

So his buyout is mitigated by future earnings. Why work? Bama can't be paying him much as an analyst, so he makes the same regardless of effort.

Because it's a spring-board. And it's 'Bama. Saban likes to promote from within, so in that context it makes perfect sense.

I get that. I suppose the networking opportunities alone have good value. Just surprised at the analyst title. Supposed being an analyst at Bama affords more than a coordinator job at say New Mexico. Also surprised he didn't get a look at an NFL job. Also given Jim McElwain's new position at Michigan.

People are a little gun shy given the soap opera he had at UT.

especially with the talk about him mistreating players, keeping a kid in after concusion, loss of locker room and reports from scouts about how he didn't properly utilize players---doesn't sound like the risk is worth the reward

Did not know that. My source for all things Tennessee was the last CEO at my hospital. Needless to say he was frustrated with Butch but did not get into specifics.

If hired as an analyst, he'll have little direct contact with most players and won't be in a position to make any of the decisions or do any of the things that led to his problems at UT. He'll basically just be a backroom guy watching film, looking for trends, writing reports, making suggestions, etc. Saban's had several former coordinators and HC's do a tour of duty in the program doing such work. An expert, experienced set of eyes analyzing for you instead of a GA is a big plus, and they get a chance to rehab their career.

oh I agree on the analyst job...i was talking about him not getting a sniff at a coordinator position with a team or a lower tier coaching gig

My bad. Been up almost 24 hours and my grey matter is mushy. I agree he's more or less untouchable for a HC or coordinator job at the moment. Needs a couple of years to rehab his rep.

it's basically the Kiffin plan. Saban buys when the stock price is low.

If they would only pay taxes on their moonshine and marijuana money, they could upgrade to a double wide without fear of the revenuer man.

Consumption tax on porn, 1% sales tax on new trucks and $5 tax for entrance fee for gun shows.

It'd be great if there was a way to charge people for the amount of porn they stream online. The money should go directly to upgrading the network in the area so greater bandwidths can be deployed.

Virtually the entire SW quarter of the state (which is the area they're speaking of in the article and the pics are from) is a third world country. It's depressing to drive through it. Little more than a rural version of Camden.
