The defense is loaded next year and Freeman will not hire a dud if Al leaves.
The good thing is Freeman has proven to coaches around the country you can get top players at ND and can win a lot of games.Freeman is a career defensive coach. I’d be more concerned with Denbrock leaving. We’ll be fine if it’s with Mickens or someone else.
Got to think Freeman has learnt a lot of new stuff with Golden as his DC as well.Freeman is a career defensive coach. I’d be more concerned with Denbrock leaving. We’ll be fine if it’s with Mickens or someone else.
Luke Fickell, COME ON DOWN!The defense is loaded next year and Freeman will not hire a dud if Al leaves.
Belichick still hasn’t signed his contrast with UNC.As much as I want to keep Mickens, if Golden leaves I think you go after Saban.
I’m old enough to remember the board calling this “lazy hires” when Kelly did it 😂If Golden leaves, and Mickens is still here there is a 100% chance he gets the job if he wants it.
I would literally be shocked if they even interviewed anyone for the job.
My guess is that it would be announced in the same announcement.
Come on now BK never had assistants at Mickens level of cred.I’m old enough to remember the board calling this “lazy hires” when Kelly did it 😂
Yep. Get Shane Gillis on the job of try to get him in.As much as I want to keep Mickens, if Golden leaves I think you go after Saban.
Well to be fair, Kelly hadn't shown a really strong ability to hire excellent coordinators, and often went back to the same well for retread hires over and over again. It wasn't until his job was in real jeopardy after 2016 that he begrudgingly changed that habit. That led to 3 great DC hires in a row.I’m old enough to remember the board calling this “lazy hires” when Kelly did it 😂
Dude please proof read your posts before posting. And use some fucking punctuation.Wonder if it isn’t Mickens whose the guys we would go after
Actually it's because Mickens is leaving to take the AFC Richmond job.If Pete is really certain it isn't Mickens, I wonder if its because Freeman has a scheme change in mind and wants to bring in someone to handle that. Once that person inevitably leaves in a few years, then maybe he hands the reins over to Mickens who would then have more varied experiences to draw from for when he runs his own defense.
He didn’t change that habit and he didn’t make those hires. That was Swarbrick keeping his sorry ass afloat.Well to be fair, Kelly hadn't shown a really strong ability to hire excellent coordinators, and often went back to the same well for retread hires over and over again. I was thinking the same thing do we go more towards a 3-4 base defense next year. We should be deep at LB and guys like ASA and Farimo could rush in certain situationsIf Pete is really certain it isn't Mickens, I wonder if its because Freeman has a scheme change in mind and wants to bring in someone to handle that. Lets not even change the recruiting class philosophy in the class we just signed or are targeting now. Wing it, we're playing prevent or fire blitz lolAfter Freeman has spent 4 years building the defense to his scheme via recruiting is the perfect time to change schemes
I mean, we don't really know if he was building towards the current scheme or a different one this whole time. When you really look at the last three classes, the ones he really fully recruited, there are a lot of guys who don't really have a clean position fit in the current defense. We kind of fit them in where we think they will go, but maybe the role they are supposed to fill is even part of the defense yet. After Freeman has spent 4 years building the defense to his scheme via recruiting is the perfect time to change schemes
You think he’s looking to do a Chip Kelly move??? I think he’s pretty happy being a head coach.I’d definitely go after Brent Venables.
I think he’ll get canned soonYou think he’s looking to do a Chip Kelly move??? I think he’s pretty happy being a head coach.
Agreed, but probably not before spring practice.I think he’ll get canned soon

Meanwhile, some of the most indispensable players on this defense are from the pre-Freeman era. Maybe we play the way we play because of what they allow us to do, but we have a schematic change coming so we don't have to rely on having one of the best players in the country playing centerfield and having two disruptive monsters on the interior of the line.
I heard an analyst say something along the lines of if you can play cover 1 man and win doing it, you do that, but at the highest levels its just not really possible. And I think we might see that in this coming game. Everyone says how its a bad matchup for our defense. Maybe Freeman knows that, has known that, and has been preparing for a future where we have other options.
He's brining in jim Knowles from osuI think he’ll get canned soon
