I think it’s still to be determined what we have on defense. Obviously a great performance against Navy, but that’s as one off as it gets.

We still don’t know what our pass rush will look like. We expect our corners to be elite but are worried about the safeties. Navy didn’t answer that.

What about when we face a QB who is accurate or that can beat you with his legs.

We probably won’t know what we have until we’re heading into OSU.

While I appreciate the adjustments, for some reason the defense always seems to get pushed around on the first drive of games. Giving up an early TD against the better teams is going to prove costly at some point.
Navy was running out of formations their oc hadn't shown before. Brand new formations/plays, trying to catch ND. Once Golden and co got a bead on what they were running and adjusted, the tide turned.
I actually prefer this rather than dominating from the jump. It bodes well for later in the year and shows they can effectively make adjustments in game.

Greg seems like a really good dude. I love his and Jamie's breakdowns.

Greg especially because he's funny with his finger break videos.

I think the lack of development on the front 7 guys is concerning. A guy like Tyson Ford was rated 83 by ESPN and can’t even see the field yet Mason Graham was in the same class rated 77 played in all 14 games for Michigan last year and starts now. Same thing with Kenneth Grant whose in their 2 deep now how come Michigan can play Freshman on the DL and have succes yet our guys can’t see the field

We've been a contain front 6 first 4 games, need to attack this game and get some sacks, TFL. No doubt about it. Ohio state will be able to spread us out and run at times as we'll most likely be in nickel and it will be 6 blockers on 5OL and a TE, we have to counter that with some big disruptive plays by the front 6. I really think we need to own OSU's RS frosh center, and have mills/cross be blowing him up into the backfield.

This should be the first true non-dual threat QB ND has faced. That said, my hopes aren’t very high that Golden has been “holding back” so much of the defense that it’’ll all the sudden be a wale up call for fans and more importantly OSU. That would be awesome but in years past, the refrain was “I thought we were playing vanilla to hold stuff back for the <insert big game>”

See I understand the 2 lb blitzes they've ran a ton into the linemen the first 4 weeks containing the QB and run game, not allowing that to beat or challenge ND. If we see the same type of blitzes all game vs OSU, it would be the most confusing thing ever. We also haven't seen many times where our DL can rush to/past the QB, that should be allowed a good bit as well at the right times if needed.

This needs to be the year!

Correct. It especially made sense (& worked perfectly) against NCST. Would expect to see something similar employed when SCum comes to town.

I’m hoping the discipled Bo-tel-ho (gotta remember that) gets unleashed. He’s been too quiet. Hopefully he gets to pin his ears back this weekend. I guess he’s done his job thus far, so I’m not complaining.

I know a lot of people are making double safety blitz jokes - and I get it.

However, McCord is also not CJ Stroud...not suggesting Golden should do it, but on paper I expect ND would pay for it a little less....I don't care to find out for real...

THe issue isn't a double safety blitz, it's an incredibly poorly timed, poorly executed, poorly coached double safety blitz 10 yards deep that not only had no chance of getting home, it made it a simple read and throw.

As long as this guy is coordinating the defense, we’re a 9-3 football team.

He’s a beta. He’s soft. His teams can’t get stops when it matters.

Overall defense did great.

On 3rd and 19 with 15 seconds left you do not need Bertrand on the field with Liufau. Two linebackers covering no one in the middle of the field. You know EXACTLY where they have to go with the ball.

Second, on last play of the game… you know they are going to run it straight ahead. You have to sell out there and instead we have no one on the left side of the field. You have a timeout. Take it!

Like Joe Schmidt on the field in the same situation against Stanford in ‘15. Notre Dame football, the only things that change are the names.

You obviously didn’t watch any of those games if you think this was like that. SMH

That’s a pretty average OSU team. He doesn’t get points for doing well against them, and I think we’ll see that when Michigan boat races them in November.

Second, this is Golden’s MO. My wife is a Cane and I saw it when he coached there - would like fine but on do or die drives, he gets ultra vanilla. It always happened.

We’re not better than 9-3 if we have him in this program. The dude sucks, he always has, he doesn’t recruit and he’s not a game changer whatsoever.
