Was thinking the same. They started out 4-0 and now they're 4-5.

I still think it's either stay at ND or NFL DC for Golden. Just guessing off of nothing concrete.

I agree. He doesn’t like to recruit and those places would require him to really put in the effort. He doesn’t have to here with his position coaches and the school recruits itself some.

It seems like Franklin has done anything he's going to do at Penn State and they should probably move on. But Golden's not a strong enough recruiter for a head coach job like that. If Golden wants/gets a college HC job it'll be somewhere more like Syracuse or Maryland or Duke. P5 but not top-tier expectations.

Franklin has psu amazingly like Iowa of the east so unlike Kirk Ferentz but in the end kind of just Kirk Ferentz

IMO, pretty much the role Freeman is going to have to take to be fully successful...Be the face of the program, recruit, and hire coordinators that can outright coach the players up.

And even then, it’d have to be the right fit. If he can hold out here and keep a T10-15 defense, if MF doesn’t get over the hump the next year or two, he could position himself to take over.

Not saying it’s what I want but I could see him viewing that as a path to being ND HC.

That’s why a job like Syracuse makes sense for him though.
It’s P5 but expectations aren’t that high, so you don’t really have to recruit at an elite level. It’s all three-stars, you just find the ones who want to be there and coach them up.

You still have to half ass recruit on top of all the other duties. I just don’t see it.
