just picked up a 24 of Yuengling, I'm not sure its sold nationwide buts its a lager, brewery is based not too far outside of philly and is claimed to be "America's oldest brewery"

im not so sure its made its way out west, but Im pretty sure its distributed in the mid atlantic states, maybe even all of the east coast.

...oh and two cases of natty ice for my roommates.
Top 3 lagers hands down! Good pick.

In fact, that about settles it... I'm getting me some Pabst tonight... celebrate like a true 'merican.

It was rot gut when I drank it in my underage youth. Haven't had it in 40 years. Did it get any better? lol

It might depend on just how many of your taste buds have passed away in those four decades.

Senseless prohibition is still alive and well if you like better drugs.

Sorry, had to bring it up.

Since we are talking about Yuengling I will lend my knowledge to this. I live in Frackville, PA which is 10 minutes from Pottsville, PA where Yuengling originates and is brewed. It is America's oldest brewery, as the company continued to stay in business and produce near beer during Prohibition. We are located in Schuylkill County in the heart of the Pennsylvania Coal Region. This is the Northeastern and Central PA region. We are about 2 hours north of Philly.

The day Prohibition ended Mr. Yuengling had a case of his beer shipped to the White House for President Roosevelt to enjoy. The company is still based in Pottsville where they operate the original brewery along with another brewery in Port Carbon, about 5 minutes away. They currently own a brewery as well in Tampa, FL. Yuengling is available all along the eastern seaboard, not sure about all of New England though, and as far west as Ohio, and I believe Tennessee. Some bars will attempt to pass off Yuengling as an import and sell at a higher price, but don't let them fool you.

The tour is also a great experience, plus it's free and you can sample some at the end. Our region is in desperate need for tourism and we have some historical significance, so visitors are always welcome. Pottsville, Jim Thorpe (Yes the town is named after the athlete, originally it was called Mauch Chunk), Scranton, Hazleton, Etc. would all benefit from expanded tourism.

Agreed that marijuana prohibition is senseless. But in no way, shape or form is that smelly weed superior to a well-crafted beer or whiskey.

Ahhh, Prohibition! Contrary to popular belief (self imposed and encouraged), I was not a first hand witness. Even if that were true I'd not have been of legal drinking age until 50 or so years after the 21st Amendment was passed.

I do recall a point when (I'm mixing threads here) leaving milk and cookies for Santa morphed into Cognac and cookies in my household. I thoroughly understood the change when I was about age 13.

My father entrusted me with assembling a bicycle for my little sister. I was up until two or three in the morning Christmas Eve/ Morning. It was a rite of passage. Something like an Irish-Catholic version of Bar Mitzvah. That day I was a man!

I was also tired as hell when it came time to gather around the tree to open presents in a few hours. I'd love to say that Dad poured me a snifter to join him, but all I got was a chance to swirl and sniff.

There's the problem. It should be Cognac and Biscotti.

Just heard on the radio that smoking "the weed" causes man boobs. I guess if you smoke enough of it and top it off with some alcohol you really wouldn't give a crap.

Truth be told, I'm pretty sure that the cookies were intact but for a small "nibble" that could have been fabricated. The snifter was definitely licked clean ...

Keep in mind that the Irish were never known for baking and cooking. Breakfast was the exception, as long as you have no qualms about dying young of a heart attack. Thick slab bacon, eggs basted in butter and bacon fat, sausage laden with pork fat, strong coffee that's a a 50/50 blend with heavy cream and fried "budaydas." Add a scone smothered in "buddah" and you have a complete meal that should last the whole day.

They did nail beer and whiskey – and the drinking of same. As well as other spirits ...

In high school there was the corner mart that just didn't give a shit... they sold to whoever... St. Ides 40s were somthing like a buck twenty back then (no clue what they are now)... five bucks got you places.

Needless to say that corner mart closed a while back... not sure why but I wouldn't be suprised if that had something to do with it.
