Worst thing about NIL is that I can't even bring myself to be annoyed with these kids anymore. I get that the principled thing to do is shut it down but more than ever these "recruitments" are just "comparing job offers." I would never not pick up the phone to listen to an employer who wants to offer me more money. Even if my answer is "no", it's nice to know the market.

The one thing that helps is that I know this kid would probably rather go to ND if things were financially close, so the amount Oklahoma paid must be an overreach. So Oklahoma put more money into this kid than we thought was wise, and they have less money than us overall... seems like we continue to win this zero sum game.

I'll also take this way of handling thing every time over the Dante Moore "will he, won't he" BS. Kid had the decency and good upbringing to rip the bandaid off.
The Michigan Basketball coach that just quite basically said he was exhausted by the agents and that he had tons of kids commit and then get squirrely with $$. He said some of the handlers were just total slimeballs trying to play all sides to generate a bidding war between multiple schools and the only way to effectively do that was to lie about their player's interest in the school and even commit to deals while still waiting on other offers to come through in the background.

What's ironic is that in this case it seems like his agent was the one telling him you gotta stick by what you said and sign the deal, and it was the kid/family saying "ooo well Oklahoma is desperate and now offering..." So I get it, do what you got to do for you. But it's also a dumb middle ground between traditional sports free agency where you sign literal contracts and "high school recruiting" where either party can separate from the other at any time.

It's being reported by someone who doesn't like to have his information shared. That's all I'll say lol
I can't buy it either
I grew up about 20 minutes from Colts Neck. One of my best friends was a HUGE Oklahoma fan because of his dad. Had he had the athletic ability to play football there, he 100% absolutely would have chosen them over anyone else.

No kid from Colts Neck, NJ dreams of going to a generic state school in Norman, Oklahoma. The money must have been ridiculous, especially considering he had plenty of more attractive options excluding ND.
Idk those colts neck people are fuckin weird. Bunch of rich people cosplaying as cowboys, I could see them having some strange obsession with somewhere like Oklahoma

Seems likes this kid was immature and reached out to Oklahoma himself or through a third party. Pissed his dad, agent and coach off.

If that's true, that is the best ND recruiting story we've heard in a while. What a dumbass

Jamie is the best because he mentioned we can go get a mobile qb now
So wait the Dad and agent were pissed off at the kid?

I gotta be honest with youse all. I could really go for a good burger right now. I mean like a real burger, not one of those weak ass patties. Something with some meat on it, completly soaked in worcester sauce. Lettuce, onions, tomatos. Large Potato Bun with mayo ketchup and mustard. Not interested in the double patty, just one big ass single patty with a little blood still on the inside.

Post 25 in Asheville is a great kid friendly spot. Took the family there on our way to Hilton Head. Bocce ball in the back and the kids loved running around. Got a “Go Irish” too! Was hoping it was Ben Councell lol.

I never saw the inner workings of "deals" with high end football talent in high school (2012 grad). But I was around plenty of high D1 basketball prospects on the Chicago AAU circuit.

The amount of deals being struck courtside during games was incredible. You'd hear about it constantly from teammates and opponents, and nobody worked very hard to hide it. There was always shady stuff going on. And here's the part that stuck with me: the handlers were usually negotiating on behalf of families that had nothing, and I can't count how many times you'd hear afterward that the family got screwed in the deal.

Sad stuff then. I can only imagine the headaches now.

Assuming that's true, then we're definitely better off. The culture at ND doesn't have room for immaturity.

18 year olds do 18 year old things. If he’s willing to subvert both his dad and agent to entice another program to pony up more $$$, there’s zero chance he would’ve been a…dare I say…RFG.

Have fun at South Iowa.
