I still have some optimism here, though it is based on a fan who has connections to Dollar. We shall see. 🤷‍♂️

-Every starting tight end at Notre Dame has been drafted for over 20+ years.
-Elite education
-Consistent CFP contender
-Top level NIL

Imagine saying no thanks to that lol.

100% agreed with all of this, but it does seem that for whatever reason, TE production / playmaking has been so so since Michael Mayer left after the 2022 season.

Not sure why our TEs haven't played a more integral part to our passing game, but maybe it's just that we've had the best 1-2 RB tandem in quite a while at ND over the past few years and that WR play has improved since the early 2020s. Is some of it a conscious choice by Denbrock? Not sure.

Michael Mayer's 67 catches in 2022 is a huge outlier, and I would not count on that happening again anytime soon. Not because the tight ends aren't good, but because the other skill position players are so much better now. The 2022 offensive gameplan was essentially "run the ball or throw it to 87". Mayer was a big, easy target and a nice security blanket for the shitty QBs.

Now you have a future pro at QB that can pretty much make all the throw, paired with a huge uptick in WR talent. Moving forward, I think a realistic, productive season from TE1 would be similar to 2025 Eli Raridon or 2024 Mitchell Evans.

As a bears fan, the conversations after drafting Sam Roush about the future of 3 tight end sets in the NFL is very interesting.
As defenses move to smaller faster nickel backs over LB's, the counter appears to be 3 big bodies TE's.l that can block and get split out. Apparently the Rams have 6 TE's on their roster.

the way Mike Frank was talking today with Jamie he seems to think the coaching needs to put most of the money on the DL and DE recruits that they have a good shot with and not spend top dollar on Jaxon
