Staff must not feel confident about Mckeogh? What about Evan Goodwin is he not in the picture anymore?

So McKeogh to Penn St? Seemed kinda obvious when he immediately was talking to a Penn St site about setting a commitment date the day after his OV to ND

So this is more interesting than I thought. He was a 2025 TE. Reclassified after this fall to 2026 to try OT.

PSU offered at camp a few days ago.

Nebraska, Wake, Cuse, Michigan St, BC, Stanford offers all since May 1.

He also camped at ND recently.

Sounds like a familiar 3 star guy a few years ago who came in undersized at 6'6 240 and a TE but ended up a first round draft pick

FWIW the PSU On3 site said Franklin and co were pushing for a commitment from him but he wanted ND.

He took the New England version of a Mormon mission

Love this offer, but I have the ignorant perception that Connecticut produces all these P4 players every year that never pan out.

IMHO, CT football is mediocre at best, so recruiting average-sized skill players based on their tape is risky business.

However, recruiting raw players based on elite physicial traits is a different ballgame. It carries risk everywhere, and sometimes allowing a kid to get more reps against lesser competition--rather than riding the bench at an elite football high school because the coaches don't know him from youth football leagues and don't want to develop him--is actually beneficial.

So, for example, I might take a chance on a 5'10 QB from Texas 6A, while passing on a 5'10 kid with similar/better stats from CT. On the other hand, a thick 6'4" linebacker that can run sideline to sideline is worth snagging, even if his competition stunk.

I'm not saying Pyne was not a good recruit, just that I might not have been as interested as the staff...

And Davis made some memorable snags!

At the time, it was fine. They were banking on him growing like dad. He’s like 6’5. Just never happened.

I absolutely agree with the stances on CT HS football. Where I think it’s different and in this case it applies, is that the prep school level of football has grown significantly over the last 10 years. I should probably note that the NE prep school football scene has really taken off in the last 10 or so years. Some of the kids take a post grad or PG year and it really helps their bodies develop. Will Black from last year’s class is an example (I’m pretty sure he did a PG year at Chote last year).

Like another poster said, this could be a good high upside take. He will have talented bodies in front of him and he will have time to develop.

It’s also interesting that PSU is pushing for his commitment. They must be fading for the big OT from DC and a couple other higher ranked OT guys.

Recruiting a WR to play TE (Fryzel) and a TE to play OT (Thom) is some CFB 25 **** from Freeman/Martin lol

Makes me wonder when they take the three-star ATH from some non-football state with a strong arm and speed to be their QB..

Given that he is actually a 2025 HS grad, could we get him in for this season and have him count as one of those roster limit exemption guys?

I don’t see why they couldn’t fit him in for ‘25 if they really wanted to but I don’t think they would want to. Probably want to see him actually play this fall.

You aren't ignorant, you're correct. tbf some do work out, but I will never get very excited about a CT recruit (edit- including Will Black).

digging a little, I didn't realize DT John Jenkins was from my dad's hometown/high school
