He's earning offers from camping where these staffs are seeing him in person. That matters more to me than where he's playing HS football.

I agree with @Dale. It's a bit more interesting than just the offer. There is a lot here that will not manifest until down the road by the time he's a soph/JR in the program. You get a raw guy that size who can move around and plays lacrosse, that's worth taking the flier on if you have the room.

Rough diamond, for sure, but he's not really a secret anymore. And yeah, taking him at the expense of PSU again would be hilarious.

I liked Jamie U's point that he worked out with 2 Penn State OL commits. He was good enough in that environment that Penn State offered

Right.

Not to mention the Ivy League offers coupled in with Army, Air Force and Stanford. He's clearly a smart dude.

Then you have just about all of his offers having come in May or June. He's high stock right now and upon re-evaluation, he's probably going to rise in the rankings and get the fourth star so many probably would want to see to covet him.

Maybe a higher 3* but I don't see him getting higher than the 450 range. Definitely worth a "flier" as a former TE turned OT a la Andy Heck, but I expect a former TE to move alot better than he does at this point.

Who knows how the recruiting sites will treat him but what I do know is that his physical attributes are elite ie. The stuff you can't teach is what he has. Playing in Connecticut isn't going to help his ranking but his upside is so great that the recruiting sites could look at that and rank him quite high because he does have the physical traits of a top prospect.

He’s never played a snap of the position we are recruiting him for and even this fall will be in his 5th year of HS. No argument with being a three star come NSD.

Didn’t Alt play TE before he got to ND?

Yes but Alt was unique in that you could pop on his tight end film and he basically looked like a 6th OL most of the time. They ran the ball out of multiple tight end sets at will so we saw Alt dominate in the run game even as a junior in HS. People also banked on his dad’s NFL pedigree.

True I mean we aren't expecting Thom to play right away he is a guy who maybe by year 3 is ready to contribute

Even if kid never plays a snap, he is already legendary for going on a visit to PSU, and telling them in person that if ND offers, he’s going to ND.
And this is big boy recruiting.
Taking a kid as your 6th OL that PSU wants as their top OT prospect immediately after taking their in-state, original #1 OT prospect.

Based on class numbers & anticipated development it seems to me he's been recruited for a 2027 spot.

In the current environment I think taking guys like this is necessary, with how much talent ND is stacking on the OL there are bound to be transfers, having a guy willing to sit and develop is excellent insurance, at a minimum.

I'm all for continued dunking on PSU but wouldn't Kevin Brown be their current top OT prospect?

He’s already in their class.
I meant kids they are trying to get.

I hope they take him. He doesn't need to turn into Alt or Heck either.

If it spites PSU, that's a cherry on top.

Here is how I see the OL playing out after this year. I think Wagner leaves for the draft, I think 2026 your starting OL is the following
LT: Will Black
LG Scrauth
OC Craig, or Herron
RG Jagusah
RT Lambert
I think if Scrauth leaves early Knapp slides to LG

A two year starting left tackle gets replaced and moved out of the starting lineup entirely? Stop star gazing man

Could see scrauth going pro. Knapp has to start.

Thought about this more. Left to right: Knapp, Lambert (he is 340 right now, Craig, Jagusah, Black

Any updates in this thread should be about a commitment, not the '26 or '27 OL projection that most assuredly won't have Thom in the two-deep.

He'd be their 4th or 5th OL, they have a top 100 recruit in OT Kevin Brown. It would just be spiting them of a "flier" at this point😄
