If he didn't have an OV set up with ND I'd be more concerned.

The kid liked O’Leary and you can't fault him for that. O’Leary didn't move on to another college and Saban isn't at Alabama anymore, which think helps ND.

We know Mickens can recruit, Taylor is a kid that can come in and compete for PT early, does he still want to be a part of this class?

Next weekend is an opportunity for Mickens/Taylor to gel.
Agreed. Thing is, he's visited once or twice since O'Leary left. And Freeman, Bowden and Golden are still here.

Hopefully, he's just a kid taking few trips and we keep the Steeler legacies going. Would be a huge loss if he left the class. He's top 3, imo.

I would assume upfront NIL shouldn’t be a huge issue with him considering his dad’s career. Hopefully we can sure him up next weekend.

NIL is no issue for ND.. the biggest issue is kids having to go to class.. thats it.

And that weeds out a lot of top talent unfortunately..

But ND can compete with anyone when it comes to NIL.

Got to see what the new Shields building will look like on the inside & it’s INSANE… It will undoubtedly help in recruiting.

Up front, signing bonuses for 5 star-ish elites with NIL agents IS a problem for ND. And admissions is still admissions even if more compassionate and flexible than 10 years ago.

Freeman has upped the recruiting game for sure but in the end, his chance to win a Natty will come down to not copying the Bama / UGa / OSU model but a mastering the synthesis of the Dabo & Harbaugh strategies.

Ok, I’ll bite. O’Leary was clearly a talented coach. His recruiting started cool but had really picked up. I think you’re bending the truth about his recruiting.

2022 - He missed on X Nwankpa. They ended up not taking a single safety which made their numbers terrible. I’ll blame the entire coaching staff on that decision.
2023 - Bowen situation was just a mess. Doesn’t need to be repeated here. They get Shuler who is good. Minich too early to tell. Hillman they found early - all I’ve heard is Notre Dame told him everything he needed to do to get admitted and he flat out didn’t do it. I think the kid even said as much.
2024 - was best described by nd beat writers as a “cluster f***.” Initially it was they were going to have their pick of the litter and then it turned into a mess. Tae Johnson played mostly offense in high school. Bennie-Powell everyone was cool on initially but seemed to have a good senior season. Urlacher seems like an in the box safety. People had decent things to say about him in the spring but I wouldn’t say anyone is raving about him.
2025 He was clearly doing a great job recruiting with Taylor and in on multiple others
Exactly! 2024 was horrendous Tae is much better on offense at this point, and TBP just doesn't have the fluidity in his hips. Very stiff and below average athleticism. Hillman situation was ridiculous.

I also prefer nd players that make coherent sentences.

What does that mean? That they were taken by surprise? Or that this time we're not going to all pretend he's committed for months when he isn't really anymore?
His mom went on Twitter and all but declared that they were happy to entertain any big NIL offers (which any top 10 overall DL will of course get).

I remember that some loser fan tweeted that KK lovdd Nd and wasn’t interested in NIL or a bag. Then mom said “well for a million we would listen”. Then uncle got involved

When is he visiting them? Midweek like the kids we have coming this week? Think Blair starts tomorrow. Or is Taylor coming after this weekend?

Absolutely. By their policy, he isn’t in the class anymore and they’re actively recruiting his replacements so at least they have their bases covered.
Think someone mentioned that this changed once the NCAA made a change in how many OVs could be taken.

I wouldn’t think of it that way - I’d just think he isn’t committed. We are the front runners though. Keep recruiting him hard.
Freeman could get O’Leary on the blower and ask him to have a chat with him calm him down.
