Still some pro-ND stances from Payton, but also mentions Laurinaitis' move to Buckeyes will be them in his list.

Planning on being back at ND in March.

Likely not today. Dallas got hit with some ice yesterday and a lot of stuff is shut down. My company's office is out until Thursday if not Friday. I'm more surprised he made the trek there today, I heard road conditions weren't that great.

Nah it ain't that bad. Just not safe to go on pretty much any flyover or bridge, especially up there. They don't have enough materials to prevent the ice from becoming too big of an issue. Even down here in Austin most things are closed, only 5 people were in the office at all. Breweries are closed etc.

You clearly havent experienced an ice storm in Texas. I speny my entire life in the Northeast, spent time in Ontario, and went to school in Connecticut for 5 years before moving to Frisco, TX about 12 years ago. I am definitely not afraid of snow, ice or any degree of cold, but when it happens down here it is just different. We rarely get “snow”. Its just gets iced over to the point that even with 4WD you have no control and can slip and slide just trying to get out of your own driveway. Its just weird and in all my years up north I barely of ever experienced anything like it. Tons of black ice as well.

So, it really was all because of Laurinitas…

I believe Pierce was supposed to visit this week, as well.

Yup JL got him to shut it down four days before he was supposed to be back in south bend. That's a rather emphatic L even if the hope had sailed by this point.

Someone *really* needs to explain to Peyton that, unless OSU is going to hire him as an LB coach or analyst next year, Laurinitis literally can't be on staff as an GA when he enrolls.
I would assume that is the plan. It seemed like word around South Bend was JL is a rising star in the profession. If true. Wouldn't be all that surprising if he's eventually elevated to that role at his alma mater. But, point taken. Seems pretty crazy to follow a GA from team to team.

Knowles would likely not be there if Laurinitas is a LB coach.

Jim Knowles is currently the LB coach. I would guess more than likely he would become an analyst of sorts at OSU before he becomes positional coach.

isn't there a petition in place with NCAA to allow teams an extra on field coach?

Yeah, it sucks, but do this now as opposed to 6 months from now. The staff must have sensed this and went right into digging in with Cole Sullivan.

????? The staff could have gone another week into this recruitment without it blowing up their lb strategy.

LB is the least of my concerns with the current room and the 2023 class. They can afford to miss on their top targets and be fine as long as they hit in 2025. 2021-2023 classes were loaded at LB.

He's seems to have been trending to Ohio State for a couple of weeks right? I'm only speculating that they knew one way or another.

No additional time wasted.

Was thinking this as well. Still a couple of other good targets out there they can land. As good as Pierce is, you're looking at safety and edge being primary spots that are more important for this cycle.
