https://irishsportsdaily.com/s/1496...-emotional-offer-for-2024-de-nigel-smith-jr/1

Christian at ISD talked with Smith's coach, Matthew Nally, who went into some more detail about how the offer was extended. Smith's dad, who is on the coaching staff for Melissa and is 6'9" 280, was in the office with him when Elston offered. Both were emotional, and when Nally told Smith Notre Dame was on the phone, he looked as if he "had seen a ghost." Nally himself grew up in Indiana as a huge Notre Dame fan and has 3 sons that were all brought home from the hospital wearing ND jerseys. He had some very positive things to say about ND.

He grew up in Franklin and said Rick Mirer and Ron Powlus were his guys. I bet Calbert Cheaney and Damon Bailey were his other guys.

Isn't that how yall do it on the southside, #1?

“I will definitely be considering them when it comes time, they are one of my favorite schools. The atmosphere was crazy, the stadium was packed and stayed loud the whole time. One of the things I liked was getting to see the campus again because of how nice it is and all of those great recruits that were there just shows that Notre Dame is still gonna keep winning.“

Reminder we were the first P5 offer for what is now a 5 star bound player.

Smith, who also has offers from schools like LSU and Rutgers among others, will be at Ohio State next month for the Buckeyes’ game against Michigan State and plans on returning to South Bend again in the future.

Said he likes Elston and thinks he can push him.

Re-offered? Did we revoke his original offer?

Texas 7-5A Division II Defensive Lineman of the Year. The production speaks for itself via the stats and highlights.

He's Top 10 in the state class of 2024. I really hope they can get him and Thomas into the class in the end. Two TX DE would be outstanding.

Any dlinemen that makes 90+ tackles in a season should raise eyebrows, especially at that level. That # means the kid knows how to get off blocks and find the football.

This gentleman comes to mind. His circumstances in 2007 were not the greatest, but 112 tackles for a 3-9 team at DL? Outstanding.

Blue and Gold Legend.

And not just a DL, but an interior DL at that.

I remember seeing those numbers leading up to the draft, and was truly amazed. And like you, still am to this day. It was truly mind boggling what he did that season. I think most people don't realize what those numbers mean for an IDL. I've tried to think of comps to help explain it- a CB having 12 or 13 sacks, a DL having 8 or 9 INT's, a basketball C averaging 10 assists, an NHL defensemen top-3ish in the league in goals, etc.

Nigel has this kind of productivity as a junior in HS. Sky is the limit.

Could project to the interior if he's already 6-5, 250. Wait and see I guess.
