I watch UC every week. Gino is a great QB coach, and might turn into a great recruiter with ND and Freeman at his disposal.

He is NOT what ND needed at OC right now. That’s not to say Parker is, either, or that Gino can’t grow to be a promote-to-OC guy in a year or two… but tapping Gino for OC straight from UC would have been a bigger risk than promoting Parker, IMO.

Gino the OC is currently a slightly worse version of ND Mike Elston (which is different from LSU Mike Elston, which is different from UC Mike Elston). Lack of playcalling rhythm, late getting plays in, noticeable lack of involving his best weapons at times; it was perplexing at times last season for UC.

Replacing Desmond Ridder would have been a tough task for any coach in the country… but Gino didn’t help mitigate the situation the way an established, comfortable OC would have.

Bingo!
Assuming you mean Denbrock? Yeah, Denbrock always felt pretty meh as an OC. Which wasn't a huge deal when working for Kelly, but this staff needs more. Hoping Parker + Gino can be that, but we shall see.

If the 247 Staff geniuses would simply imagine Carr at OSU or scUM there wouldn’t even be a debate about the 5 stars.
247 isn’t the problem.
They have him 37th nationally & are moving him up.
The problem is On3, who have him at 193rd, and that’s after moving him up since his camp MVP performances.
Charles Powers dropped him to 200 after seeing him play one bad game last season & refuses to admit he’s wrong & move him back up.
It’s like Kyle Hamilton & Rivals when they were so wrong & wouldn’t admit it.

I had this exact conversation with someone last week where I was like “if they had gone through the process and hired Gino as the OC I don’t think anyone would’ve batted an eye”… where I’m skeptical on Parker is that an OC needs to have feel for the game and know what to dial up / when to dial it up and for some reason you look at him and think “I’ll believe it when I see it.” He just doesn’t have the “vibe” or resume/track record to justify faith that he knows how to gameplan or call a game. But we’ll see sooner rather than later, he’ll have an opportunity to prove himself.
Frank Wilson didn't give off the vibe that Eliot Ness did, but he produced. I'll take Parker being Wilson.

As long as he can play like a 5 star, rank him at 500 for all I care.

Unfortunately recruiting rankings do matter. It drives attention to the program w recruits and media which builds on itself.

A 17 yo kid who happens to be a Top 100 prospect would rather see the class QB be a 5 Star than a top 250 prospect.

Exactly.

Fans get all worked up over it like it's a personal slight to THEM. Carr probably doesn't even care. He's going about his business performing at these events and focused on real shit.
Drayk Bowen said the exact opposite last year & said other recruits felt the same.
He said he felt slighted & when he was a top 50 recruit he could talk to any top recruit about ND. But when he dropped to 200 no one cared what he said anymore. He said it bothered him he won a state tithe, player of the year & then dropped.

So yes, it does both bother these kids & affect they way they can recruit.

Agreed.

There are lots of games in recruiting and neither this university nor many of its fans want to participate in them. I understand floating above the fray whether it’s recruiting rankings or NIL racket. Just don’t be surprised when our ceiling is Top 10 and not Top 5.

I guess I'm old school in this respect. I think it's bullshit clickbait drama garbage. Drayk Bowen is 18 years old. He can obviously speak for himself.

You've got dozens of scholarship offers and have the keys to the kingdom over the vast majority of high school football players in this country. If you feel slighted about subjective rankings from people who don't have a real say in your development as a player and your education, by all means use that as whatever internal motivation you desire. Some guys in a room who have never been employed by a football program at any level, for the most part, can move a guy from 50th to 300 and not really provide an explanation; in the grand scheme of things, get an adult nearby with a brainstem to tell Drayk and whoever else that it's going to be okay.

Find me dawgs that don't give a damn.

That had nothing to do with what Drayk was saying. He didn’t say he cared what some dude says sitting behind some desk. He said it impacted others perception of him and where he had more impact on recruiting other players and being able to get in their ear before he was dropped. That is what hurt him. The fact he couldn’t do more for his team. Give me that dude every day.

Let me see if I am now understanding this correctly.

Other dudes saw his "ranking" and didn't give him credibility because of that? This is even dumber on more levels than I thought. High school boys, man. Jesus FC. Is there like an aggregate these guys use? "Dude, Rivals has you solid, but On3 dropped you out of their Top 200, so I'm not sure I trust you being my teammate for the next four years."

Back to the main point: as a 45 year old midwestern guy, I don't really care where CJ Carr is ranked, and if this hampers his ability to recruit other high school kids I think that's incredibly stupid and I wish him well in his efforts. I'm sure there will be some who listen.

Yes but you are 45 yo and these are kids and that is where some of the power of these subjective rankings lie.

Rankings unfortunately do matter.

Kyle Kelly is at the Elite 11 Regional that Carr is at & says Carr “looks good. Like very good.”
Says all of his throws are right on the money.

Not enough to rank him higher than 192 tho, right? show and On3 is a GD joke.
I don’t think On3 is even there.
Charles Powers ranked Carr based off of one game he saw last year.
Carr could be a top 30 player on every other site (247, Rivals, ESPN) & still not be a 5 Star composite because On3 will have him outside the top 150.

Powers has shown that he is petty & wont admits his mistakes. He dropped Drayk Bowen outside the top 200 & refused to move him up. Bowen wins the Butkus award & looks like he will play as a true freshman at ND, but Powers still doesn’t think he is athletic enough to play at that level.

To on3's credit, they did move Moore back up to 5 star status by the end of last cycle after dropping him out of the top 50. If Carr keeps on balling out, it'll be impossible for them to ignore.

So CJ officially got his Elite 11 invite.

So he can ball out there for everyone to see.

I know people don’t like Driskell…but the one thing he is really good at is breaking down film.
Yesterday he did a quick breakdown of the top ‘24 QBs & how he ranks them & he cannot, for the life of him, see how Carr is 12th on On3.
He says Carr is above Davis, Sayin & maybe just below Riola (based on ceiling), but says Carr is top 3 for sure.

Danny O’Neill 👀

I’ve seen him a few times. I think he’s going to turn out to be a very good get for Prime. Not that I’d trade him for CJ…but the kid can ball.
He’s going to Colorado?
That’s going to be quite the adjustment going from Cathedral to Boulder.

Agreed. If Prime is there long term, I could see him being a QB that eventually has quite the payday for Colorado.

It took Rees 6 years to land a stud QB and he then bolts what a shame. Carr will win a title for us before it’s said and done

Uh Buchner was a “stud QB”
Maybe as a sophomore in high school. Going into his senior year a lot of the hype had faded. He was pretty terrible in the elite 11. Mechanics were already all screwed up, he was never the prospect Carr is
