Yeah I would not expect Lambert will start this season. But it's not because he didn't EE. His high school competition is nowhere near what it would take for a freshman to step in and play tackle at this level. You don't see pass rushers like the ones employed by A&M and Florida State in the Greater Boston Catholic Conference.
Normally I'm with ya, and those two on the same team in that area is an outlier.Fair. Hopefully they've been battling for years.
There's talent in Massachusetts high school football, it's just not especially deep. CM is one of the very best programs in the state, and shares a conference with a couple of the others. As big time as it gets around here. But, like, last year they went to Florida to play a big-time team down there and got just rocked.
Catholic Memorial’s 30-game win streak ended in painful fashion in Florida
“It doesn’t benefit when you lose three key guys. It’s different down here. It’s a different speed for sure.” Catholic Memorial coach John DiBiasowww.bostonherald.com
Regardless, I think Lambert will be a good one. I just don't like the idea of rushing OLs onto the field.
Why wasn’t he 2nd String?Joe Alt was third string. Coaches don’t trust freshman tackles.
The quicker Lambert is ready to go the better. A believe a camp battle is about to begin at right tackle with Wagner and Baker. I wouldn't sleep on Wagner as although smaller, he's very athletic. Critical we get good play out of our tackles.
Fans may think differently about this if Baker gets torched regularly off the edge. Wagner is attempting to put on weight. Prister has implied this will be a camp battle. Still only June. There is smaller, and then there is too small. Unfortunately, Wagner seems to be approaching the latter. 290 seems way, way too small for a CFP level football team.
I think fisher, baker and carmondy all played LT before himWhy wasn’t he 2nd String?
Because a True Freshman, Blake Fisher, was starting at Left Tackle.
The point was ND started a True Freshman at Left Tackle the exact season that it was said Alt was 3rd string because ND didn’t trust freshmen Tackles.I think fisher, baker and carmondy all played LT before him
4th right? Blake, carmody, tosh, altJoe Alt was third string. Coaches don’t trust freshman tackles.
It’s why recruiting hype matters… a 5 star is going to get more opportunities all things equalWhy wasn’t he 2nd String?
Because a True Freshman, Blake Fisher, was starting at Left Tackle.
Can confirm that their competition was worse.Tbf don't think the schedule Alt and Totino-Grace were playing in Minny was any better than CM in Mass.
Weight doesn’t matter as much as if they can use their hands, move their feet & push opponents.Ideally you want your tackles ablut 320-330
So in 6 weeks alt went from fourth best to the best, with in season practices that have almost no development and limited weight lifting?I think Blake dominating Foskey in spring ball had way more to do with his getting his opportunity in the fall, than his rating. Also, let's not pretend that Alt was ready when he got here, because he wasn't. Blake was clearly the better OT before he got hurt.
Thank you. I've seen what Baker can do. Not impressed so far. I wanna see what Wagner can do. 11th rank tackle in his class per 247. 3rd year in the program. Deserves a real shot now.Weight doesn’t matter as much as if they can use their hands, move their feet & push opponents.
Baker outweighs Wagoner by a lot.
But if you talk to anyone at ND, they will tell you Wagoner moves people better than Baker.
That's a pretty disingenuous framing of the situation. I also don't think you are accurately portraying what Joe Alt was (6'8 305) and what the coaches expectations where for him when ND broke fall camp his freshman year.So in 6 weeks alt went from fourth best to the best, with in season practices that have almost no development and limited weight lifting?
Right, he'd pull 46 on over 76. That didn't happen right away, though and I think was a product of Baker and Carmody's ability to hold up.Alt actually did start off as a TE at ND, & lined up as a TE in games before moving to tackle.
Robert Hainsey started at RT for both the '18 and '20 playoff squads and at that time, he was only around 290.There is smaller, and then there is too small. Unfortunately, Wagner seems to be approaching the latter. 290 seems way, way too small for a CFP level football team.
When he showed up at ND, he worked with the TE’s.He got his first game action playing TE. That isn't anywhere remotely the same as saying he started out as a TE at ND.
He was an OT that they utilized as a big TE in certain packages.
How long after showing up did he switch to OL? He was in the two deep as of Sep 8th so he had to have been working as OL for a majority of camp. When he showed up at ND, he worked with the TE’s.
I know, I saw it with my own two eyes.
He started with the TEs.
In the summer before fall camp? Because he was definitely with the OL when camp openedWhen he showed up at ND, he worked with the TE’s.

We should have gotten him a TD in his last game.Alt actually did start off as a TE at ND, & lined up as a TE in games before moving to tackle.
