OSU gives you everything you could want.

Championship level football.
Strong spiritual element in the program.
Good academic programs if you want it.
Great social atmosphere.

They are going to be tough to beat for anyone.
meh i would still say 95% of their players go there because they know its a pro factory

He makes a good point though.

Yes most of the dudes go there too play football and not play school.

But of the rare exceptions, there were a lot of solid programs the actual college provides.

As an Ohio resident I know a lot of people that go to cbus for school and never come back either because they fall in love with the city.

I can definitely see an impressionable teenager being drawn to everything they have to offer.

We're talking about a kid from Los Angeles, not Canton.

Sure, Ohio State's a good school. So's Notre Dame. So's USC. I'm with Dubs here though. They win recruiting battles for out-of-state kids because they produce NFL draft picks like few others.

Fixed the above to assign weightings that designate why we lose kids to OSU whenever we do.

I’m not saying the academics or the spiritual elements aren’t there if you go looking for them; rather that the typical kid who commits to OSU couldn’t possibly care less about those things. To them it’s primarily about winning championships and getting to the NFL.

OSU football players don't step foot in a classroom or campus. It's all online. It's a semi pro team.

I wonder if Golden and O’Leary have a bet amongst each other to see who can be the worst recruiter on staff
i know it doesn't show on signing day but i've heard on podcasts this summer that he really tries hard at recruiting and that kids mention his name a lot but for some reason those kids just choose other schools.

As much as I hate Michigan (more than any other team), I am beginning to hate Ohio State nearly as much. I really do hope Michigan keeps beating Ohio State and then getting pummeled in the playoffs or to USC. Obviously I hope we win too. I also hope Scott is there to witness ND beat OSU in SB. I think they lose to both ND and Michigan in 2023. As absurd as it is, that would put Day on the hot seat and perhaps hinder their recruiting slightly. 2 losses would most definitely keep them out of the playoffs and then maybe they can lose a bowl game to USC/Oregon/LSU or something.

The MI - OSU game is the CFB version of the Yankees & Red Sox. I hate there is no way both teams can lose in sports.

Why would anyone pay $70,000 a year for their kid to take online classes?

The same reason they do at Stanford and other prestigious universities. Same with zoom classes. Northwestern has entire degrees dedicated to them.

Not every class of course but ND should have SOME if they are going to be a modern university. This is 2023 fellas, not 1935 Indiana Jones' archeology class.

Don't think I'd ever see "spiritual element" mentioned with OSU's football program.

Notre Dame doesn't offer onlline classes? If not then they are way behind the times.
There’s a difference between online classes and online degrees. I believe ND does offer some remote learning. Not online degrees. Neither does Harvard. Online degrees are not something I believe ND should ever offer. If people want an online degree there are 10 million other options.

The biggest difference between OSU and ND is the STAFF. Scott recruitment exposed this issue. This fucking BOT needs to step up and give Freeman the ability to hire the best underneath him.

My entire friend group from Youngstown ended up in Columbus.

Being located in Columbus is a huge advantage for OSU, being located in South Bend is a huge disadvantage for ND.

Well the staff isn't up to grade because BOT. Its staffed to be a Top 15 program but not in the same arena as OSU, UGA, Bama. ND really needs to figure that out. Although hey...Bama took our boy wonder for their OC so.....

The reason ND doesn't do online is because it would make their current business model completely obsolete. There's no reason to charge $70k (it's actually $80k now) to watch a video online and submit some homework. They would have to drop the tuition which is not sustainable for an organization that makes its living running a credential mill.

There’s no reason to charge $80k to sit in a classroom and learn the same shit. Both are outrageous.

I agree with both you and IrishMoore, but I will say that the full tuition price tag is a little misleading. We took my rising HS senior son to ND last fall for a prospective student visit/tour and they shared their tuition financial aid plan, which virtually everyone gets something based on family income level, and almost no one pays that full price. Granted, our cost would still be something like 40k, so it was still a shitload lol. He wants to major in mechanical engineering, so that Purdue tuition is looking pretty sweet for mom and dad 😂.
