One nit . . . Smith's physical tools were always elite, but he had MUCH more of a Drew Tranquil career than a Kyle Hamilton or even Alohi Gilman career.

Harrison Smith did not start out as some obvious, can't miss prospect in college--he didn't play at all as a freshman on a not-at-all elite defense. His Sophomore year was pretty good, but he wasn't even a clear-cut starter. Then as a junior he played at both safety and LB, where he was OK but not great.

He then moved back to safety full time as a Senior and became an absolute beast. Again, he flashed the whole time, but was nothing like Hamilton.
He was a 215 pound LB due to to a lack of talent at LB that year.

How'd he play in the poly? Haven't watched the game yet.
He ran well. Covered a lot of ground quickly. Didn't have many passes come near him, so couldn't really judge his coverage skills. The one obvious thing he needs to work on is his tackling. There were a few times he was in a good position to make a tackle but didn't. Tried a couple of arm tackles that didn't work out well. He has the athleticism. Just needs to get the fundamentals down.

You went to Indiana State, bro. Just how bad of a high school student were you?
Full scholly big homie. I was accepted to a lot of different schools, but knowing I wanted to get into education, it didn’t make sense to take on debt when I could go for free.

You know why I never mentioned that before? Because I don’t have an inherent need to brag on the internet.

I went to Indiana Tech up in your neck of the woods. One of my former bosses used to give me shit saying I went to school to drive the big rigs. Lol.

Final superlatives from the 2023 Polynesian Bowl

Defensive Player of the Week

DB Brandyn Hillman (Notre Dame)

Hillman was a late addition to the game but then spent the week showing that he should have been in all along, the most consistent defensive back we saw throughout the week and in the game. He's got an alpha personality too, coaching up his teammates and rallying them each rep in practice, then going out and backing it up with his own play.

Pictures can be deceiving, and kids grow, but is that BH on post 242? If so, he does not look to have a huge frame. He looks like a safety.

Not about Hillman but wild story from his high school:

Not excusing the coach posing as a teenager to play against and dominate a bunch of children one time (although... who among us hasn't daydreamed about participating in sports later in life and dominating like a professional athlete at some point?), but I've got issues with a kid skipping a school game for an AAU game.

Shouldn't loyalty to school and classmates, even if it's "just" a JV game, come before the club shit?

this isn't a modern reality at all. A lot of D1 bound athletes particularly in baseball, women's soccer etc dont even play HS sports anymore.
