I agree that they dont owe the program anything and that they work for their subscribers and not ND. All I am saying is this is becoming problematic for the ND Staff. The IB intel last night confirmed my "theory" and this is the second recruitment this season that has negatively been affected by false information released by the beat writers. This is a problem that the staff needs to fix moving forward.

Four things here:

1) If you haven't learned to take IB (or any outlet) with a grain of salt, you may be the problem.
2) If in fact Loy, BD, Sampson or whoever it may be lets slip privileged info, they may find in the future, that the info well has run dry.
3) Fool me once argument may apply to the staff here
4) The beat owes nothing to the team only it's readers. If the staff doesn't want something getting out, then they need to STFU

The whole thing is illogical and reeks of Driskell (Soup Nazi) being unhappy with Loy's credibility and access. Whatever. Silliness.

. Honestly we have had more information shared through intel then any other recruiting cycle and though we all love it as fans maybe they just need to cut back what they share.

Fair to note that some of the new assistants have probably never worked at a program with the level of media/fan interest in recruiting that there is at ND. They may be accustomed to more discretion by the reporters they dealt with in the past. They’ll adapt.

Pretty certain that even if this information was leaked, Freeling would ask the staff about it.

Either way, it sounds like ND changed course when Freeling wasn't ready and upon evaluating Otting and Paige and accepting their commitments. Knowing this staff, I can't imagine they take those commitments if they were sure Freeling was going to commit or if they didn't feel like either, particularly Paige, was an equivalent prospect.

The staff doesn't live and die by what 247 says and Harry has shown he knows a thing or two about what makes a quality OL.

My memory of the timelines was the combination of Freeling looking like he was going to take it into the season along with contemporaneously the information that his high school had misappropriated funds (which endangered eligibility) led to the beat edging back from feeling he was a ND lean. As that was being rolled back the idea that the staff liked Paige just as much just seemed like the typical slide in a why not to be too dejected and never particularly read or felt timewise like some big slip up that queered the deal on a potential recruit. My perception was that recruitment was already and recently at the time been written off.

At one point they had another LT in there but Freeling came back in for some reason. Not sure when or why but he was back in for the last two drives I think. He got worked tonight.

Do we owe Loy a big thank you? For those who don't remember, various ND insiders had Freeling as a ND lean and then Loy made either a message board post or wrote an article questioning whether ND would take Freeling after Elijah Paige committed, which wasn't true. Apparently Freeling and his family read that and thought that Hiestand and Freeman were lying to them, and they soured on ND after that.
