Probably considered a gray area. There are no specific "performance stats" he has to reach and it’s logical someone’s NIL value should increase substantially if they win the Heisman.

I think the big numbers are being publicized and "leaked" by these agents/representatives/whatever they are being called.

The only reason the numbers would leak, even if grossly inaccurate, is for the negotiator to advertise themselves and tell the next kid, "hey look at what I got so-and-so."

That's why every need outlet universally says the numbers aren't ever accurate but they keep coming out big like this. Could the total comp as a 4 time CFP and SEC champ and 3 time Heisman and Maxwell winning quarterback with a 4.0 GPA contract look like this? Yes. Is it guaranteed? No.

That's only my guess and opinion, though.

We could see more stories like this with kids chasing the bag, only to be rug pulled once they sign the LOI. It seems like the wild west, but the schools who reportedly promise big money have had disappointing performances (Texas A&M) and locker room problems. It may turn out that promising big money up front and getting kids who chase the bag isn't good for the program - schools might start trending away from it.
