Totally forgot.

So here's the story that I heard:

-He visited Notre Dame and no one -- not Penn State, not his family -- thought that ND was under serious consideration.
-He gets on campus, absolutely loves it, commits to Lance Taylor. This shocks the people around him that then go into full scramble mode.
-He goes home and as soon as his dad gets involved he basically cuts off communication with ND. Taylor can't get him on the phone.
-Meanwhile, Franklin and PSU have open lines of communication and put full court press on. Hard sell about how PSU is the best decision for him and his family, pressure to make a public commitment and shut down his recruitment.
-He told ND coaches it was a "family decision" to go to Penn State and the implied part of it is that there may have been large promises of NIL money.
-Bottom line is that when Singleton was making a decision for himself he picked ND. Once his dad got involved, ND was not even given a fair chance to recruit him. They were cut out.

-Speculation from me: I do not think Singleton would've ended up at Notre Dame if Franklin left for somewhere else. I think Singleton would've paused his recruitment while the dust settled, and then when the new staff was picked his dad would've still pushed PSU (as long as the NIL commitment was still there, if that was indeed the case).

You can make at least $20-30k more if you make them think that you're going to commit to ND. It's been that way for longer than any of us started watching ND football.

Wonder how much kickback dad was getting from nicholas signing with PSU. To not even let your kid explore other options is shady AF.

Not to beat a dead horse, but in Singer’s lucky charms article today he supported a theory that definitely was thrown around here or maybe on other message boards. He more or less said that all the CBs that publicly went to ND after Nick’s visit helped tip off PSU that he was close to committing to Notre Dame and made them start their full court press. And that Notre Dame internally was not happy with the media for leaking out that information.

Slightly differently from what Lax gave, but ultimately similar on a high level. Nick either chose ND or was getting ready to, and then everyone around him began steering him to PSU.

Despite their elite recruiting of QB and RB, they still can't recruit OL to save their lives. Get him from the portal next year after he sees his draft prospects disappearing faster than his running lanes.

No offense to Singer, but this is one of the stupidest things I have ever read and it defies logic. First of all, in what universe was he going to go home and not tell his family what he was thinking? At that point, PSU still gets involved at the exact same time. Second, "ND not happy the info got out".... the people who leaked the info are the ND coaches themselves who told the media that Singleton was committing.

The scenario described by Singer is just not plausible on multiple levels.

Thought that was kind of lame by Singer. To insinuate PSU would not have found out, no shot. The ND side didn’t like things getting out, how do they think Loy, Fong etc got the info?

Exactly. I know for an actual fact of one position coach who absolutely told media people they were getting Singleton. They were basically bragging. Not happy it "got out"... as if the information was some carefully guarded state secret that the KGB stole from a vault, and not coaches texting with people.

Yep. I don’t think Mike’s version of the story really checks out. Just wanted to pass on what the talking heads were saying.

I just reranked the 2022 Class prospects for 247 & Rivals and Mr. Singleton is #1, #2 & #3.

Don't dislike the RB room as long as Estime & Tyree remain healthy but he's a program changer that's living up to the billing.

I really liked Singleton, know where he trained for 6-7 years and he's an absolute monster. I knew it was only a matter of time before we had sadness over this one. Hopefully JD returns to full health because I was really excited about him.

And Price recovers from his injury. Sounded like he was gonna be RB1 before that.

I’d rather be 0-12 than play for a program that should have been wiped off the face of the earth.
Fair, and I agree.

But these kids just care about playing and being in a position to make it to the NFL. He just tore up an an SEC defense while our backs struggle to put up 3 ypc against a sun belt school.

Singleton has been impressive this year, if he would've chosen ND could he be impressive with the o-line we have?

Who's the last 1,000 yard rusher in the NFL from ND? Julius Jones?
Ryan Grant probably in 2009. Really weird career. Had a single 1,000 yard season at ND before losing the primary back spot to Julius Jones and then Darius walker. Didn’t even play in the NFL till he was traded to the packers at 25, then had an outstanding first 3 years there, rushing for over 3,400 yards in that’s span.

People will hate to hear it but, PSU can 1000% beat OSU this year. That CB room is legit. ND already gave them the blue print to run and they have NFL CBs to do it with. A run game by them completely changes the team because Clifford doesn’t have to do dumb shit as much. They’d need a good Clifford night but it’s definitely possible.

They’ll beat OSU but take a loss prior. Michigan - Minnesota - OSU three straight weeks.

Penn State has CMU and Northwestern at home, bye week, at Michigan.

They host Ohio State on October 29th, which this season feels like it may as well be 2028. We're not yet out of September and there's already been plenty of quasi-chaos.

I don't bet on college football, but if I did, I'd find James Franklin in a big game and put money against him.

We'll see how these next few weeks play out.

They barely beat Purdue, who lost to Syracuse. But Syracuse actually looks legit this year.

Weird season so far with a lot of unusual teams 3-0: Kansas, Duke, etc…

We wouldn't know, because Tommy's offense is like BK's offense in that it doesn't allow a freshman to pick things up quickly enough to contribute.
