It wasn't as cut and dry as what everyone is looking for. At least from Loy's commentary. UNC and Bama lead for Pope at the present. Loy mentioned that the staff will not take another S if they want X. They are under the impression that another S keeps them from getting X. So, did ND make that decision before or after Pope was leaning elsewhere? Or before or after they chose to go back in on Morrison? Don't have the answers to those. But, fun times.

I'm sensing some sarcasm here.

May not matter, it all sorts itself out in the end but that bit about stopping recruiting X if we theoretically got Pope and Morrison would fall contrary to all previous reporting on Nwankpa. Would agree might have been a needless spin. Ya win some, ya lose some.

None intended.

It seems like there are just a lot of moving parts and things/conversations going on BTS that we don't know about. So, it keeps the guessing game going for yet another week. I thoroughly enjoy this. I don't have any reason to believe that Freeman and the defensive staff don't have a good grasp on what's going on. Like with Bellamy, if we got Bellamy because we missed on Morrison is that a big deal? In this case if we get Morrison because we missed on Pope, is that a big deal? I view all of those things as really good recruiting. At some point they probably thought they led for all 3. Once one of them started to head elsewhere, they locked up the other. And, eventually there will be an odd man/men out. In this case it looks like those will be Pope, Covil, and Winston.

Let's just hope it's not X, lol.

Most seem to think that X is OSU bound to join their super class.

Wow, recruiting is a lot of fun right now. So many moving parts. Loy now saying that it looks like it's UNC or Bama for Pope. And that Morrison/Pope are for 1 spot.

If Morrison pops for ND, I couldn't take Pope while waiting on Nwankpa and 5+ BPA's. I originally thought I wanted Pope over the 4th CB this cycle but I get a feeling Pope is a WR minded guy that would only work at FS and I don't hate ND's position with X. Between Z Branch probably going there, depth chart and X's ability to be the next KHam quickly, it just seems like something Freeman can overcome.

Not that they would stop recruiting him but that they believe it would hurt their chances of getting him.

Seriously. Loy has really been getting on my nerves with the spin lately. He was like, this is good news for ND fans who want Nwankpa. Give me a fuggin break.

Would it really surprise anyone, if Freeman is pitching his 1 high S system to X and saying he's a day 1 starter when he gets here?

There are two things that ND can really differentiate themselves on here and that is academics and depth chart. Now, we can debate the merits of guaranteeing spots and playing time but what's the worst case scenario?

Mickey, Moore, Morrison, and Bellamy. Does the class look that much better with Pope? It very well could be spin but it also doesn't sound that unrealistic. It would make sense that with all these visits in such a short period of time, there have been a lot of swings in these recruitments.

When Morrison told the staff they were behind and they chose to rally the troops to hopefully get him in the class. Why is it so unrealistic that Pope told them the same thing so they went after Morrison or don't really care that much?

Not how I read it but alas I don’t think the point will end up mattering

Didn’t even watch the video till now. “They seen me on both sides of the ball”

Hadn’t heard that one. Recruiting pitch to convince him? Would be funny for two WR commits to have a Bama offer to play DB. Another alas it may not matter point

X is a take no matter what. Sounds like maybe Morrison and Pope had one spot To fight over looks more like Morrison is in the fold based on Intel today.

I would be surprised if they called Pope and said no thank you. But I think there could be a difference, in the reaction by the staff, between when they were told Morrison was leaning elsewhere and when Pope did so. And that probably has to do with things that have changed over the last 1-2 weeks.

What was the longest odds?
On 1/1/21 ND getting Jr Tuihalamaka
On 1/15/21 ND getting Joshua Burnham...
On 2/2/21 ND getting Brenan Vernon
ON 7/7/21 ND getting Xavier Nwankpa?..

The essence of insanity, they say is doing the same things or betting the same way and expecting a different result.

Golly, does it make sense to bet against the closing skills of Marcus the Freeman?.

Either way I am confident in whatever Marcus Freeman's plan for DB is in the 22 class

Just because it was asked multiple times in different stages of recruitment, the Bama On Line guys also think it’s Bama/UNC but added a nugget that they hear he’s a “take” for all finalists.

So Bama, who’s well Bama vs UNC who’s been on him longest and best relationships. How many of those type of battles does Bama end up winning?

folks on ISD podcast reckon the likes of Bama, UGA, OSU and ND were disappointed to see how small he was when he got to campus and they have a theory that he's really only a take for UNC of his finalists right now

I heard this, but there was a part of either this week’s ISD podcast or possibly last week’s that almost implied that Pope is part of the class. I think Mike was talking about Bellamy, Moore, Pope, and how it allows us to shoot for Xavier. Don’t recall the exact phrasing or context, but it seemed like a subtle hint to expect Pope in our class. Seems at least a little contradictory what they were saying about the staff not liking his size.

He was talking about Morrison. Said ND still likes Pope but they aren't pushing hard for a commitment.
