problem for chargers is their interior OL is still bad, in a perfect world theyd have another RT, slide Alt to LT and play Slater at Guard

Slater is in the last year of his contract, Chargers removed a lot of his leverage with Alt. Doesn't mean they won't pay him, they just have more options now.

They picked up his fifth-year option this off-season. He’s under contract thru 2025.

Thank you, I absolutely saw "thru '25" and then saw that it was for $19M in '25 on spotrac.

Came right in here and said last year of his contract. :geek:

With today's cap, you can move money around to free-up cap space for all your stars. However, it's not like every star player, or those with some beefy deals, will be immune from being a cap casualty.

The Chargers have invested a lot into Herbert. Samuel Jr. will be needing a new contract. Bosa & Mack have huge cap hits, but Mack has been around forever, and I can't seem him playing at that salary in a few more years.

Harbaugh is a guy that wants elite OL play. Something tells me if he has his wish, assuming both play at the level they are capable, Slater and Alt could be mainstays on the Chargers OL for many seasons to come.

I agree both staying the most likely option and that Harbaugh has every intention of keeping both.

Alt is tied up thru '28 at what will be a cheap..ish price. I would be surprised if they didn't take a good look at spending Slater's money elsewhere and moving Alt over. Same surprise if Harbaugh didn't find a 3rd tackle, good enough to be the 2nd tackle.

Was Harbaugh a cheating scumbag at SCUM? Yes, absolutely. Do I still love him as a coach and am I happy I can root for him to succeed now? Yes

same boat. whats annoying in the NFL is that whenever a team establishes a dynasty like the chiefs are now often the other 3 teams in the division will just become super passive and have that "we'll just wait until the dynasty runs its course" rather than try and compete. Think of the Bills, Jets, Dolphins during the Pats multiple SB era. At least the Chargers are actually trying to do something now and building a team culture that is different to whats there and and they will definitely be a team that will put up a fight

I can root for him to succeed for Alt's sake, but that's as far as I'm willing to go for a former scUMbag.

It’s going to be fun to be able to tell people we (as in me and also ND) picked him out of high school.
