He needs to go see a sports psychologist and get his nuts back
There is def. something psychological going on with him for sure in re: to passing... Or something physical, that's affecting his mental focus.

I don't think so. I actually re-looked at his '22 stats before posting this morning. He had 1 straight garbage game in a loss at GT. Besides that, as a whole, I could only wish he's that good the rest of this season... as compared to what he's done through 3 games thus far.
You and I have very different expectations for what thrills us from a QB. Below 6yds/att 3 of 4 games is not that. Throwing the ball 24 times for 126 yards, like he did against UVA doesn’t win football games against good teams. Or 25 for 136 against Miami. These numbers show a clear lack of ability to operate downfield.

This version of RL is who he's always been dating back to high school. When his first read isn't there , he doesn't go through a progression or check down, he scrambles to make a play either by running it or eventually finding an open WR. In high school he was a superior athlete so he got away with it. He only had one full successful season at Duke. I'm not sure why anyone thought he was an elite passer?

Yes! I know NIU is an outlier but Riley Leonard is going to be very successful doing this against bad teams and is going to struggle against teams that can actually tackle.

We’ve all watched enough football to recognize this. Good against ass teams. Not gonna score enough against better teams.

Exactly , they'll blow out bad teams and hope the D keeps it close against anyone with 1/4 more talent than Purdue. It will be up to the staff to keep varying the looks on O bc good coordinators will steal your signs , ahem , I mean scout you and pick up tells if you dont. This was a good week. Stack another one this week 🤞

With as prepared as back qb and receivers looked would be an interesting idea to just vary up lineups to keep D off balance and pressure off banged up & inexperienced OL

The big thing will be what Denbrock draws up against zone defenses. Purdue plans a ton of M2’s and that’s when Riley’s legs are most effective, when the D is chasing around there assignments and then all of a sudden QB takes off. Vs zone, gotta be able to hit guys in the soft spots and hang in the pocket

Yep there were zone looks yesterday when every receiver was open. And RL looked at that and ran

Agreed. They used a lot of motion yesterday that seemed help QBs identify coverage. The TD pass to Flannigan is a perfect example of what they need more of. Play action and attack seam with vertical TE. Continue to develop the screen game , and quick throws if RL is QB. Hopefully guys make plays in space.

You are right. Then read the reports from the ND sites and its proof they were wrong. Riley isn’t good, Oben isn’t good, the punter isn’t good.

I know they don’t get a lot of access but good lord those sites have been way off.

Can someone please explain to me why RL is better than Buchner.
Buchner is total Ass. His performance in the 2023 BG game was possibly the worst I’ve ever seen. Basically quit and left after the game. He had more than enough chances. Freeman was smart to get Sam but Dumb AF to let Booker play OC. Btw how is Booker doing at Troy? Already has more losses than they did last season? Hope he has a juicy buyout so he can retire and go coach a small high school team. Biggest reason we lost games last year. Won’t blame him for Louisville but all others yes.

Parker.

Buchner left b/c he knew he was never going to start over Sam and was offered at least a shot to start at Alabama. Who wouldn't take that? I don't really think he should be our QB ever again but he's a solid kid who did his best, and when you watch Leonard, the similarities in their games - pro and con - are striking. We should probably move on from run-first QBs with big arms but accuracy problems.

yeah i was thinking about that since greathouse didnt get credited for a single catch vs purdue. also makes it hard to recruite wrs.
Eh, make plays first. No one to blame but himself after his drop against NIU. He looked good on the play that got called back, I hope he can do that with consistency.
