Seider on under center:
“Because now you’ve got to defend the run game. You still have to defend maybe some quick dropbacks. I know people don’t do it a lot. But your nakeds [bootlegs], your screens, all those things. Your play action becomes really good, especially a program like us that runs the ball. So, it just opens up the opportunity. Plus, man, we’ve got to help develop our players. That’s helping CJ chase his dream. But it also, as he’s chasing it, it’s helping us become a better offense.”

I am willing to bet MF lets Denbrock do his own damn thing lolConsidering Freeman’s affinity for Jim Tressel, I wouldn’t be surprised if he personally told Dembrock we’re using a significant amount of under center this year after last years short yardage disasters.
Since Jack Larson got on campus they've said his route running and hands were elite, I've always assumed it was a strength, speed, quickness or a blocking issue that has kept him sidelined.
That, or being like 5’11” at TE.
I think they'd be working on under center snaps this year regardless of who was playing QB. Short yardage was a fucking disaster last year, and going shotgun 100% of the time was part of the problem. If I'm disgusted watching it as a fan from my couch, MF probably is too as the head coach watching from the sideline.Weirdly the Seider talk gives me more confidence in CJ than anything I've heard thus far. I've been pretty worried that the press is just assuming CJ is going to have this major jump in productivity into Heisman facorite when I thought he had a few sloppy games last year. I was in "show me" mode.
The coaching staff feeling good about introducing under center NFL concepts indicates that he's mastered Denbrock's usual bread and butter to the point that they're expanding into other stuff. I don't think they do that if he's missing open WRs on the routine stuff. That gives me the warm and fuzzies.

There is a guy on Twitter who worked for the Eagles and some other teams as analyst, and he has some really good stats on this. Even without the Tush Push, you are an idiot to do anything other than QB sneak on 3rd and short / 4th and short situations. Teams that properly know how to execute a sneak execute way higher than literally any other play. Even Tom Brady was deadly at QB sneaks and he is one of the least athletic QBs.I think they'd be working on under center snaps this year regardless of who was playing QB. I also believe them at their words and doing CJ a solid....but letting him operate under center (and teach drop back with his back to the field), he will be more NFL ready day one.I think they'd be working on under center snaps this year regardless of who was playing QB. FWIW, Brice and Sampson didn't seem super high on the WR group on the latest II pod.
I mean, going against our secondary nobody will look goodFWIW, Brice and Sampson didn't seem super high on the WR group on the latest II pod.
