True dat - Rank only 40 for TP '25 rankings - 6 commits (no Damon Wilson signature just yet) so far with Max Klare as top get: https://247sports.com/college/ohio-state/season/2025-football/transferportal/?institutionkey=24046
And TX and ND even further down at only 4 transfer gets and PSU with 3 gets. Hard to recruit and/or announce transfers when you're vying for the CFP NC. Hopefully, this is exactly what ND anticipated was gonna be the case and the staff of peeps tasked with finding/securing transfers did their jobs effectively and the coaches closed the deals largely BEFORE the playoffs even started. It that's what happened, that was some good foresight, planning, and execution!

I really don’t get being antsy about the portal when ND is 2 games from a Natty and basically just showcased they know what they are doing in the portal

Like what do you truly believe is the end result? This is the whole class, we lose 20 guys to the portal and are 6-6 next year?

That waist to ass ratio is intriguing. She don’t look too bad either

When you see every other school sign a mediocre backup that ND has someone better than already on the roster:

That's what people have to realize. 80-90% of these players are entering the portal because they are in the 2 or 3 deep and they want more PT. ND doesn't really need other teams scraps nor would those players come to ND to be buried in the depth chart

The other semifinalists are signing tons of big time transfers. And ND?
This is why I called it a flop. You have arguably the best defense in the country. You have glaring holes at WR and DT but none of the kids leaving to try and win are going to ND. But like I said, I trust this staff so it's whatever.

But someone just proved that the other semi-finalists are all under 6 portal commits.... 3/4 are four or less.

Ya, again...I'm being simple. I haven't looked at what OSU has done or anyone else. I'm saying ND has a clear need at WR. If I was a stud, at USC, or A&M id consider ND. Same goes for DT, we look like we are on the verge of a run. We are starting to look elite not only on the field but to kids through social media. Just not sure why a coach like MF isn't eating in the portal....that's all.

If I was a stud WR, the ND QB future is a bit unclear at this point. It is understandable for it not to be destination #1.

The good players leaving good teams are not leaving “to try and win,” they’re leaving to get paid.
More power to them, but most are likely not coming to ND. And personally I’d rather pay the guys we’ve got so they don’t go and do the same thing.

They got a guy they feel can be a #1 next year in Fields who is a legitimate boundary guy. A depth piece in Will Pauling that has played a lot of ball, added a body to the TE room that can block really well, and one of the best, truest nickels from an SEC team.

I really don't see how you can have the opinion that it was a big flop.
Lack of a home run name, lack of a gamebreaker...landed two solid WRs (another possession guy and a slot guy w/dropsies)but none of the big name guys nor the deep threat we sorely needed, landed a TE that didn't play much this season at a lesser school. Impatience on landing a DT and watching all the top guys commit to others schools when it's looking more and more likely we need 3 bodies at the position with a minimum of 2.

I can understand fans skepticism, they wanted more of the top tier guys (Smith) and not as much solid reliable guys (Fields) and certainly not underachieving (Pauling). Fields will be solid but definitely don't like him as a #1 on a team with Championship aspirations. Pauling has some good tools, but his inconsistency can give cause to pause as well as mental lapses in games with timely drops. Smith should be a STUD and Washington as a depth piece at TE with plenty of other better options is a head scratcher. How they rally at DT will be the key to the portal class and still need to find a deep threat at WR who has shown it at the college level.

Makes it hard to land the Jeremiah Smith and Ryan Williams types when all the WRs avg 9-12yds/catch and the QB future is unclear albeit talented w/upside.

Who are the tons of big time signees for OSU?
Klare and Onianwa were big time, Donaldson is solid. Adding Wilson would be big time as well if that comes to fruition, I think last year's haul is probably still in people's minds aa well.

This is the funny the the portal does when Purdue TE Max Klare is big time lmao. He’s a fine TE. A lot of his Purdue teammates are fine too. Let’s relax on calling the big time players. Holden Staes was big time for a portal TE too.

Landing two P4 WRs with 800 yard 6+ TD seasons under their belt feels pretty damn good to me. We’re basically arguing unproven / high upside guys vs high floor guys in Fields and Pauling. We havent had a 800yd WR since 2021.

Not to mention that Fields' QB was a very average passer in Collandrea.

Getting paid at OSU (Wilson) or UGA (Branch) along with LSU and Ole Miss and Texas (shaw) sounds like a lot of the studs are leaving for both.

I was lumping the lack of QB get into my bust talk as well. Everyone else in the playoffs is set at QB next year...except ND. But agaaaaain I trust Freeman so let's see what happens.

Unfortunately, at this point, only the elapse of time will give us the TP satisfaction we all seek here on IE. We can do nothing but wait for at least the next game and maybe longer until the (hopefully) NC game. Then, all will be revealed. And honestly, so much can still happen. Didn't we still have Tommy Rees at this point in the season a few years back until then we didn't? Just for example (pure speculation): A ND QB could leave after the playoffs; Sark could leave TX for the NFL and all hell breaks loose for their QBs; a QB like McCord maybe gets a 5th year of eligibility + ruling and decides to stay in CFB but maybe, just maybe, he decides to play elsewhere (not 'cuse) where he can actually be part of a potential NC team. And of course, there could be a handful of GT players champing at the bit to announce after the playoffs. So much can still happen in the next 2-3 weeks. Patience (so hard for us all on this site) is all we can have right now, as f---ing as hard as that it is 😰
