The guy never eclipsed 300 yards in a season and people want to say he was a big threat with his legs. Stats don't lie, your eyes might though.

Stats don't lie but conclusions drawn from them are often stupid.

Just watched-no dog in the fight. He was a threat with his legs. Been a while since I watched that game. Everything was good until Brent states, "Folks, Notre Dame is relevant again". Ugh.

6 minute investment. It's pretty clear.

I didn't need all 6 minutes to watch 3 plays. One play was a read option, Golson handled it great for a decent gain. Second run was a broken play that nearly ended in a coverage sack, but a bad tackle let Golson scramble for big yards. Third run was a designed QB run that Oklahoma wasn't expecting. This was Golson's best game scrambling of his career, it's downhill from there. He wasn't a true dual threat QB, he nearly got caught from behind by an Oklahoma LB with his almost 4.9 speed. The clip did showcase his arm quite a bit though. That bomb to Chris Brown is still awesome.

Next year between the 1Q and 2Q instead of recognizing the 1982 fencing team we should institute a new “Beat the Freeze” type activity where contestants can race against and try to beat Everett Golson in a footrace. The first contestant will be Steve Angeli. No handicap. No holds barred. Mano a Mano. For all the marbles.
In lane 1, Everett Gollson. In lane 3, Tommy Rees. In lane 4, South Bend PD. In lane 5, Carlo Calabrese. In lane 6, one of his people. In lane 7 Super Steve Angeli. In lane 8, Jack Coan. In lane 9, Nico Iamaleava (for a small fee).

We should all be able to agree that coan is coming in last

He's more dual threat than Angeli.

No doubt, but he may have had the best arm among that group despite having the weakest WR room.

He might. I still remember watching Golsons high school highlights and thinking we finally had a dude that could sling it all over. I was severely disappointed with what we ended up with

Kelly destroyed his confidence. Golson had an amazing arm. He could make any throw, and had a max of approximately 75 yards.
That damn F$U game; I'll never forget watching that robbery live and the look on his face when those refs did what they did....ND goes 1-4 the rest of the way and in the strangest outcome I could imagine he transferred there.

Northwestern game was better and he looked just fine in this game. Certainly better than anything we've seen from "Agile" Angeli even going back to HS.

Since this has become the Everett Golson thread:
In terms of pure tools, where goes Golson rank among Notre Dame QBs of the Kelly and then Freeman eras? Gotta be pretty high on the list. He was a hell of an athlete. Only ones I'd probably rank higher would be Kizer, and maybe maybe Leonard.

I was so excited for him the moment he committed. He should flashes in his RS Frosh year. The dismissal killed his momentum. But man he looked great through the FSU game in 14 and then everything just collapsed

Underrated what if there is Golson's career. ND probably wins 2 more games in '13 if he's the QB instead of Rees, and then you have a confident, experienced Golson heading into 2014 and 2015.

I’d say angeli is about drew Pyne level of mobility. He was somewhere between coan level and book level.

He could have possibly won 2 more games in 2013, but that's more doubtful than probable. Given what we know on the history of QB regressions under BK, Sophomore year usually came with a slump as BK opened up the playbooks for 2nd year starters. It often resulted in QBs having too much on their shoulders. It led to Golson having a lot more turnovers when he returned in 2014.

The 2013 offense wasn't terrible, Rees put up 5 games with 300+ yards. Defense was a big drop off from 2012 though. There was no Manti to QB the defense, Tuitt came in struggling coming off hernia surgury, KAP was gone, Russell and Williams were out with the Frozen 5, and Big Lou missed much of the season with knee issues. We were up 3 scores going into the 4th quarter in Ann Arbor before Diaco's defense choked the lead away. We gave up 419 yards passing to Stanford. The Arizona State team that Rees beat in 2013 would pick Golson off 4 times the next year enroute to a 55-31 loss. The 2013 Oklahoma loss was maybe one game where Golson would have been helpful as we struggled with protection and Rees got hit on one or two passes that turned into INTs.

People are seriously arguing that Angeli is more mobile than Gloson?

I dgaf about straight line speed in football. That's why I hate players that shoot up draft boards just because they ran a 4.3. Who gives a shit if they can't make people miss in space? Better qb amongst the 2? Go ahead and argue that all day. But to actually argue who is more mobile is laughable at best. Sorry, I'm a few drinks in and this was perplexing to me.

If I’m not mistaken, Joe Flacco ran a 4.7 at the combine. Straight line speed does not mean you’re mobile.
He ran a little slower at 4.84, but I thought Golson was coming off a couple of injuries when he attended the Pro Day. He ran in the 4.6's coming into Notre Dame. Hell I just saw Jayden Harrison run a 4.57 at the Pro Day after running in the 4.39-4.43 range at Marshall. 40s are just one of those things where it can just be a bad day bc its a short distance and so start dependent.
