Regardless of who starts, they'll be super conservative to start the year.
Rely on the defense and run game to win until he gets up to speed.

IMO a two QB system has to be one where there’s a clear #1/#2 not one where they’re competing for a job
Like how Buchner was/could have been used more with that Wisconsin QB we got whose name escapes me this second.

Hmmm. I guess he could have but I don’t remember it. And he’s usually memorable in play. Didn’t record a stat in the first two periods according to a stat sheet post. Long is #22 while Urlacher is #23 and I saw (good or bad) Long multiple times.
Watching on Peacock now and am looking for him since you mentioned it and I can’t find him

I think when all is said and done CJ will start vs Miami. But one thing I think wasn’t talked about much that the coaches definitely know is that Kenny isn’t likely going down on first contact on some of those runs.

If we are going 2 man race here I think CJ and Kenny are it. Who can move the ball better? Likely depends on who we are playing and who the skill players are.

Thats the thing, if the WRs are like what we have had over the last 3 years it might be better to go with Minchey for the running.

Outside of two throws, CJ's ball placement was elite. He was squeezing into some tight windows.
Imo, it all depends on the o-line, not how much the receivers progress. Despite how well they mauled people, Riley was facing fire drills all season.

We might have the best OL, deepest RB room, deepest/best corner/safety room, top 5 LB room in all of college football.
* I think once healthy our DL room can be top 10 and I think once we get fields added into the WR room I think they could have a breakout year.
*Im predicting that if Carr wins the job fields ends up getting 1,000 yards he seems to love those tall guys to throw too

“You would like to be able to kind of go in the fall with a two-quarterback battle. It's really hard with truly having a three-quarterback battle, but we got to sit down and have conversations about what's best for our program, what's best for our quarterbacks and we'll make those decisions in the future.”

Hard to think we don’t see movement at the QB position shortly here unless the odd man out is Minchey and he’s willing to stay.

I’m sure I’m experiencing “shiny new toy” syndrome, but I can’t imagine Angeli stays if he’s not the starter. It’s his senior year and he wants to play.

I can roll with Carr and Minchey.

On the other hand, it's his senior year. Get your degree and then transfer. He's got to know that if he can't really crack the starting lineup at ND, he's got virtually no NFL shot. Get that degree and some solid NIL, then play for your final season somewhere else?

Idk what his credits look like, but I would have to assume he’s on track to graduate early.

Looking at the defense, those dudes were attacking and swarming. They play with such a swagger. I’ll be interested to see what it looks like against an actual opponent…but as someone who had some reservations about the transition to Ash, I was pumped with their performance today.
I felt like the defense was going at about 90% most of the game, to give the QBs and offense a little breathing room? They were playing hard, but there were moments where I felt like in a real game situation they'd have been absolutely smothering instead.

I was able to catch a little of the game last night after recapping the Master’s coverage. It was nice to shower up, kick up the feet, and watch football with a drink. Granted, I had about half a bottle of JW Green, but what really stuck out to me was how polished the team was, collectively. Sure, many mistakes were made, they were likely running base defense and offense, and there’s a lot to clean up — that’s expected in April. But overall, shit, the team could probably line up tomorrow and be ready to play Miami. You don’t see that a lot in Spring Games. The team looked pretty buttoned up, well put together, and the game was very efficient. Guy’s were playing hard and making the other side work for it (see the goal line stand where the OLB/Safety stuffed Williams twice for example).

That quote caught my eye too. It seems to imply they'll tell one of them they're not in the top 2 and then the kid has a decision to make.

Crazy how far this position has come in a few years in depth of talent.

Postgame Thoughts:
1) I heard Hobbs name a lot, we are going to hear it a lot this season.
2) Minchey is going to be doing backflips for Notre Dame; I think he is going to be our "package" QB.
3) Carr looked great; if ND can keep any of our QB's from transferring it's a win
4) Kedren Young looked good yesterday, he has a quick first step
5) Blair didn't play, but he sure stood out on the sidelines; love his height at safety
6) Burress impressed me the most at WR

Great weather yesterday, 40K in attendance, Go Irish!

Above Average. Merck commented about Raridon’s lack of mobility and it was sort of apparent today. He had some nice snags, but just looked slow. Bauman was okay. Larsen had a nice catch. I don’t really see any of them being a force this year, but combined I think they can be very solid contributors.
Evans was not a force last year at best a threat. I think our TE numbers this year should exceed last years.

Reckless speculation, do you really plan a backflip TD celebration if you have a foot out the door to transfer?

Could be looking to turn heads and create a Spring Game moment, get some more attention? He may feel like Angeli and Carr have been getting most of the press based on Angeli's experience and Carr's hype, maybe he wanted to do something to get more people talking?
