We see this time and time again though, whether recruiting rankings or the draft. The most talented doesn't always translate to the best QB.

At ND there's been two types of QBs:

1) The guy who could put it all together and be a top 5 draft pick and potentially bring a good/great team a NC.

2) The steady guy with a hard ceiling. Best case scenario he's a mid-round draft pick. If he puts it together that guy is going to win a lot of games for us, but won't be the reason we beat a top 4 team alone.

For nearly 20 years now the 2nd guy has lived up to his potential and the 1st guy hasn't.

Only bit of good news is that we were always desperate for "that dude" because I think we all knew that we couldnt recruit well enough to win it all without having a Trevor Lawrence on our team. Well, thanks to Freeman and NIL, we're actually beginning to resemble the UGA teams that won NCs with just steady QB play.

I do remember Re2pect Sports was reporting players transferring out of ND after 2023’s regular season well ahead of the players’ announcements….but overall his track record is not great.

Prister’s reporting from the football team is interesting. At the very least, seems like Minchey is winning, if not having already claimed QB1.

To throw out a fun conspiracy, this could be the ultimate troll job by Marcus Freeman to really crank up the noise on Carr and set him up for an immense amount of pressure heading into the Jersey scrimmage as a final test. With the leaks only being unofficial, Freeman can officially announce whoever he wants as QB1. So let this noise get to Carr, see how he performs with his back against the wall, and make a final decision with no pressure on Freeman regarding today’s smoke when he finally announces QB1.

my gut still thinks it’s Carr, but I think my main motivator is that after one of my friends sent the On3 Pete Nakos report to our college group chat I said that Pete full of shit and doesn’t know what he’s talking about and I don’t want to be wrong lmao

People running with this are missing the point. What went down wasn’t nearly as dramatic as it’s being made out to be. Freeman knows exactly how to handle this, and the guys in the room are clear on where things stand.

The only confusion is on the outside looking in. When you’re piecing things together through second-hand chatter, it’s easy to think something “big” happened. Truth is, the staff’s process hasn’t changed, and the players aren’t scratching their heads the way the press and a few leaks would have you believe.

I’d just say: trust that it’s under control. There’s smoke because folks don’t have the whole picture.

Just to be clear, ND football doesn’t engage in late-night clarifications with reporters. Is reporter even the right term? External noise rarely reflects the reality inside the building.

I say this as a Carr fan, Spring Game doesn't mean shit and never did. Look at Kizer, he was QB #3 after the Spring Game in 2015 and he was contemplating quitting football because he stunk the joint up at the time. Golson transfers, Zaire gets hurt, and Kizer connected with Fuller to create a crazy tandem which he parlay'd into the Draft as a 2nd round pick after playing one more season. For every Junior Jabbie Spring Game star there's a Kizer that turns it on in the regular season.

With the spring game I don't think you can read too much into a good QB performance but a crappy one you probably can. Apart from this example from 10 years ago, can you think of any examples of QBs being bad in the BG game and then had a good season.
Kenny looks to me like he is going to throw at ankles a good bit. Was that him in the latest practice footage that threw one at Aneyas's knees that he then dropped?

Dude had probably the greatest arm talent imaginable. Unfortunately, he lacked the pro level frame and more importantly, lacked what mattered between the ears.

Well when it was Buchner vs Hartman that was about as clear as it gets. Angeli and Minchey looked like High school level talent at the BG game and Carr made throws we haven’t seen since Jimmy Clausen.

Claiming they picked Minchey is the kind of stuff that is no risk high reward for someone trying to claim inside status. If you're right, you get to claim your "sources" were on it and now you look like an insider. If you're wrong, you get to say "going into the scrimmage it was Kenny, but the scrimmage evaluation combined with the BG game ultimately made them re-think the situation."

Nobody who knows anything is saying anything at this point.
