I get an odd feeling we are going to lose more guys this offseason than normal. Lots of talent at the underclassmen level with limited slots to get more play time.
I think we need more mobility at the qb spot next year at A&M, potentially two brand new starting tackles and I don’t think the wrs will be quite ready to dominate a game allowing an inexperienced pocket passer to flourishI feel like I'm setting myself up but angeli has looked extremely sharp, accurate and has been hitting in stride...I try to remember it's garbage time and Def has already given up but then I think about the practice reports, not saying they've been awful but nobody is giving this dude a thought he's going to be the guy... I'm rooting for the kid!!! Still have to bring a guy in though
Both solid options imo and I think we’ll need some of their mobility early next yearPete mentioned Will Howard of Kansas State and Riley Leonard of Duke in his most recent article
And we gotta remember Hartman wasn’t even rumored to be considering the portal or ND at this time. Someone could pop upBoth solid options imo and I think we’ll need some of their mobility early next year
He was discussed last year a good bit before the season was over as an option if he goes portal route. There’s not a ton of grad transfer qb options out there so it’s not difficult to assess who COULD be good for ND … Pratt and rising off the lostAnd we gotta remember Hartman wasn’t even rumored to be considering the portal or ND at this time. O'Malley pointed out recently that there really wasn't a decision to be made regarding whether or not ND should take a transfer QB. He said the QB room always should have at least 4 scholarship QBs in the spring because there is always a good chance someone will eventually transfer out if they don't see a path to starting and you can't risk the possibility of only having 2 scholarship QBs to start a season. Sampson and Prister agreed, and since it's extremely unlikely anyone will transfer in just to be a backup, the likelihood is they will look for another top guy who will be favored to win the starting job. Assuming it all plays out that way, I hope MF convinces Angeli and/or Minchey to stick around by assuring them they will make sure they will get a series or 2 each game if they don't win the starting job. Oregon State has been doing that this year with their freshman phenom QB to keep him happy behind DJ U.I think you still take a transfer, but only if it’s a guy you know is better than Angeli. You don’t need another guy to compete, you take a transfer to be THE guy.
I hope Howard hits the portal and Johnson sticks around. Then we get Howard and Klein (part deux!!).Not a grad transfer, but if Will Howard stuck around at Kansas State and Avery Johnson hits the portal I'd be all over that. Very intriguing QB and has improved his accuracy since his Junior year of HS.
I get it. But in my opinion, you’re essentially sacrificing next season. Coaches get paid to win now in college, not “play for next year”. If feelings get hurt, so be it.I would rather ride with Angeli, Minchey and Carr next year. Let the best man win. Leonard can't throw the football.

I know guy couldn’t even throw for 3,000 yards last year or complete 64% of his passes. Clearly can’t throw it. Only threw for 2,967 yards and completed 63.9% of his passes.I would rather ride with Angeli, Minchey and Carr next year. Let the best man win. Leonard can't throw the football.

I don't think i would be too upset with that. Apart from Pratt.I'm starting to get the feeling that ND might strike out on the transfer QB...
The combination of 63.9% and 7.6 yds/att is not that impressive. It’s says his lack of accuracy is not made up for with big plays. Heck, neither is 3,000 yards. It put him 40th nationally last year. Of the top 50 QB’s in yards last year, he ranked 32nd in comp pct. Of that same group of 50 QB’s he tied for 37th in yds/att. Like who cares about those numbers.I know guy couldn’t even throw for 3,000 yards last year or complete 64% of his passes. Clearly can’t throw it. People not realizing he’s injured this year plus oline is beat up and wrs are worse than ours.
As he is not a grad transfer ND doesn’t take them. Not a grad transfer, but if Will Howard stuck around at Kansas State and Avery Johnson hits the portal I'd be all over that. Very intriguing QB and has improved his accuracy since his Junior year of HS.
Except Riley hasn’t had many weapons around him at all but still plays good competition. Duke is 2-4 since he went down. The combination of 63.9% and 7.6 yds/att is not that impressive. For comparison, Spencer Rattler had a 66.2% and a 7.6 yds/att. Michael Pratt 63.6 and 8.9. Sean Clifford 64.4 and 8. Hartman’s comp pct the last two years has been 63.1 and 63.8 but his yds/att have been 8.6 and 8.9 yds/att.
The best QB’s don’t have to sacrifice comp pct for yards. The second tier do. Which is where guys like Hartman and Pratt fall. Riley is in neither group.
