Ryan Mooney is visiting for the Clemson game per Loy.

Offer list starting to build up with BC and Iowa. If ND can convince him to PWO amazing, but wouldn't hate an official offer.

IDK what his family money situation is, but this is one of those times we could take advantage of NIL. If we keep recruiting him as a PWO, he could still receive normal financial aid. Hook him up with some NIL deal to cover the difference and then we effectively got an extra scholarship for a really interesting prospect without the risk of him actually using one of the 85 scholarships.

It unfortunately doesn’t work like that or everyone would be hiding fringe players on academic financial aid to save scholarship counts

A PWO already is kinda what you’re describing they are, just usually even lower talent wise than you’re envisioning as fringe I assume. A PWO kicker for example is just depth at a position that you don’t want to use a scholly on.

They player could just leave though right? That’s why you wouldn’t because, until the one time transfer rule, let’s say a PWO blew up and was one of your best players, he could just say well I’m transferring now to Alabama I’m not bound by anything to you. The scholarship is as much financial aid to a player as it is is binding him on your team. The transfer change means they can do that after the season anyways now but that would be my initial thought at a hurdle is the scholarship basically ties the player to the school. Without being on scholarship, you could more easily just quit at any point.

Reporters indicate this exact thing is happening. You probably just haven't heard of it because its, like you said, fringe players that don't draw the attention like an elite player would.

So I get what you guys are saying, but how would this be any less against the rules than stashing a dual sport athlete on a partial baseball scholarship but letting him “walk on” to the football team? I was under the impression that if you are under any sort of school-provided tuition aid, you had to count against the football scholarship number.

Regardless, if this kid actually runs a 4.3, I think he needs to be offered a football scholarship yesterday. He’s got the frame to fill in and at 6’4” in a position of need? Make it happen, figure out the numbers later

Per Loy this kid is choosing to stick to his ND Lacrosse commitment over a scholly from Iowa for football. Possible football addition in some capacity at ND in the future.

It’s not for QB, before anyone says something about QB

Great, so we can expect him to move like Jack Coan when he's a senior. Usually not optimal for someone playing corner.

He had scholarship offers from Utah, Oregon State, and Washington State. Higher chance than a normal PWO to actually play meaningful minutes.

The TE they got Henry Garrity had a bunch of MAC offers too so decent chance he can make some type of impact before it's all said and done.

Hoping Ryan Mooney takes the PWO spot. Not expecting it with offers from BC and Iowa, but he's yet to sign from what I can tell.

This Talich kid slid under the radar for me and I’m sure others since we had to find out and bump where Joe Johnson and 100 others went. Kid legitimately was wanted and offered by Utah. That’s incredible for a PWO.
