Well, last weekend was kind of deflating.
But, we did get some INSANE football games, which is becoming a trend with underwhelming week 2 schedules every year. They don't look great on the surface, but then they deliver crazy upsets and wild endings. If you can detach yourself from being an ND fan, and instead simply embrace the wonderful, stupid chaos that is college football, you can enjoy the merits of TWO different Sun Belt teams scoring upsets over top-10 squads, as well as Kentucky going into Gainesville short handed, and yet still putting the kibosh on all the crazy hype Florida had built after week one.
What will week three bring (besides hopefully better everything from ND)? Let's find out!
FRIDAY, SEPT. 16th
- Louisville is once again ready to get weird on a Friday night. They stunk up the join in week one, and didn't exactly blow UCF out of the water in an upset last Friday... FSU might roll.
- Air Force is legitimately very good this year, and they've got a joke of a schedule. Everyone on their roster will likely get a rushing attempt in this game. They could end up at 13-0... or I could be jinxing them right now. Who can say?
SATURDAY, SEPT. 17th - EARLY
- The Dawgs hit the road for an SEC matchup with Spencer Rattler and the Gamecocks. Even if Rattler plays out of his mind, I don't see USC East keeping it close.
- Purely to see if Scott Frost was the living embodiment of a Football Curse. If the Huskers rally and pull an upset, maybe the make a hasty decision and promote Mickey Joseph on the spot.
- Scout the future opponents: Syracuse looks good on offense through two weeks (my kingdom for ND scoring points). Purdue can score. If it's not a traditional sleepy noon game, we might have some early day fireworks.
- Go Bearcats. Beat Chuck Martin.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 17th - AFTERNOON
- Go Irish. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica. Please call the good plays, Tommy. Please get some pressure, entire DL. Please win a game, whole team.
- The Cougars won a tough matchup against Baylor last week, and did it without their top 2 wideouts. ND officially on RED ALERT for the upcoming matchup. Let's see how they do in the Autzen Zoo.
- Our first excuse to tune in and watch Lane Kiffin, a national treasure. Not a great slate of matchups, but GT looked okay against Clemson for a bit in week one. Let's see if Ole Miss can distance themselves from a team they should beat handily.
- Just a good Brand Name Matchup here on CBS, with Penn State visiting Auburn. It would be cool if there were bigger national implications at stake.
- Praying for UL Monroe, as Saban has his team coming off a close win, which is probably worse than a loss in Saban's eyes.
- Kansas is heading in the right direction quickly under Lance Leipold. A win over Houston would be another feather in the cap of a rebuild heading in the right direction.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 17th - LATE
- BK vs Leach. I could see these guys trying to fist fight during the post-game pleasentries, or maybe getting along famously. I just don't know.
- Woof this late slate is not great. Can the Rockets scare the Buckeyes? I doubt it, but let's check in during commercials anyway.
- NC State escaped ECU in week one, and their dream of being an ACC playoff representative is still alive. TTU is not bad, though! Could be another weird one.
- Kind of refreshing to see these two teams headlining a night game on ABC. Feels like a nice changeup from the usual suspects.
- UTSA is entertaining, and Texas is coming off a big matchup... trap game for the Longhorns?
- The U travels to College Station... anybody got any predictions on how terrible the Midnight Yell jokes will be this week? Let's see if Jimbo's Aggies can bounce back, as they are plagued by some of the same issues that ND is.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 17th - NIGHTCAP
- The Utes are still good, despite the loss to Florida in week one. A good chance to pour a drink, relax on the couch in the dark, and watch a satisfyingly physical brand of football after a long day.
- BUT WAKE BACK UP. BECAUSE THIS MIGHT BE THE BEST GAME OF THE DAY. Idk, but I hope. Caleb Williams vs Jake Haener. USC/Fresno State brings back nostalgic memories of Reggie Bush highlight reel runs, and foggy stadiums. This will be a real test for Lincoln Riley and the Trojans.
- Endurance test time... if you can find the game anywhere. Someone teach me how to find streams of questionable legality via Reddit, as I struggle with the internet in my old age.
